SOE Released.

Just wanted to let those kind followers of Storm Over Europe know that the mod has now been released. We have chosen to describe this release as a public beta although it has already been through 7 stages of playtesting from our in-team tester group of around 20 people so hopefully its not too buggy.

There are certain graphical issues still not totally complete at this point, there is only one new palace at present, the tech arrows and many correct icons have not been added yet and numerous civilopedia entries are still to be done, this is why we call it a beta rather than a full release. It does however contain over a hundred units, many of them new from the hands of Ripptide, Akula and others, new interface and lots of other nice things.

Yeah, looks like Ripptide is going nutz releasing the SOE units one by one.

All SOE material is fine for anyone to use now Steph.

Overall SOE is impressive.

A gigantic amount of work-hours must have been invested.

One question: Why have you choosed Regiment/Brigade
as basic unit instead of division.

Germany invaded Poland with:
6 Panzer divisions
4 Light divisions
4 Mot. Inf. divisions
45 Infantry divisions

Poland had

39 Infanrty divisions
11 Cavalry brigades
2 Mech. Cavalry brigades

Both armies seems to be undersized.

The division is the army unit renamed so it consist of different regiments. I think it works quite good with the brigades/regiments, adds some more depth.

The point is that in very abstract game like CIVIII/Conquests
you do not NEED to define the size of a unit (In contrast
to a wargame that pretends to be serious) but IF you
choose to define units as regiments or divisions its not
uninteresting.

I estimate that choosing regiment/brigades as basic unit
instead of divisions will result in armies 30% of real strenght.

That does not lower the quality of SOE (again the whole
game-engine is very abstract).

I made the question since I was interested in the reasoning
behind the decision.

I don't have a highspeed connection so I have to wait for the individual unit posting like what Ripp did, Ijust wanted to have some Idea of what to look forward too.

Klyse there will be a version up in lots of small parts just for the 56k users as soon as Stainz sorts out his machine.

Sorry kent, it isn't. It's one of those previews from ripptide. There would be no way to implement anyway.

Ok, I downloaded it. Anyway I can improve load-time? I had the time to watch 2 epissodes of Family Guy and it still hadn't loaded

May I presume you forgot to read the post in which the download is?

We STRONGLY recommend you load from the savegames provided rather than trying to load the scenario from scratch, as it takes around 4-6 hours to do it that way.
