I haven't started this game yet, but I thought there should be a place for people to post their 16xxAD conquest dates.

On first look, I remember the last time we started on the Earth map, unmodified, and it looks like the bridge to the Celts is not there. I assume DoM has toyed with the specials, or perhaps they are the same but the land has moved? I wonder if the huts are the same? For me the question is whether to emigrate to America ASAP or to go to war in Europe for lebensraum. And I expect that there will be problems with the trireme route to America. Hmm....

1x00 = Space Flight discovered.
Not a bad result for a game played without helper programs
:)
but I suppose that either ElephantU or Zenon will be able to win sooner than that (with wise use of helpers;) ).

This map is too large for me to play normally - so I decided to play OCC. I was first in Africa around 0 AD, America around 1X00 AD and found a lot of nice huts - but I do not know if I have spaceship in time - time passes quickly.

This one was so much fun (thanks DoM!). I just couldn't wait till Christmas:D so I played it immediately. It was a fun one, I did my best using trade and tech-gifting but it was slow anyway. And when I thought that I would nuke away the last civs cities I was wrong. They nuked me back so hard that I was back in the stoneage it seemed. In that way it was a very realistic game. It's not very good to use nukes... And I didn't have enough engineers to clean up the pollution witch resulted in not one, but two polarcap-meltings. This made the world look so sorry that I had no choise, mentally i.e. my options were a rather fast conquer considering I actually had planned on SS-victory, but I couldn't take out that last civ. I just had to clean up and terraform my swamp of a world, so I finnished quite late. But I was happy to achieve a rather high civ-%. Actually higher than I ever done before, I've been around 2xx % on king, but this being a emperor-game it % was higher. I just loved this game. think I'll try a early landing and early conquest around Christmas - though it gives me an advantage knowing the map and where the civs are.

Have fun all of you who haven't finished yet:)

This is my first GOTM, and what hard is it¡¡¡¡
i really doubt that anyone can win this GOTM with spaceships, or i see im very poor in this game:rolleyes:
going between America or make "lebensraum" to europe, mainly i choose BOTH, but i woukld like keep and follow developing my civ in a good and safe place until the other civs arrived at(damn hordes that attack the settlers).
which wonder build? all are cool¡¡¡¡but its better in this gotm, the Great Library :D

okey, lets talk about this, and start puting the "savegames" to learn a lot about advanced civ players¡¡¡¡

thanx

I built 5 cities on the 'British' Isles, then 2 more on the continental coast. One of those 2 cities was under permanent attack by the Russians during almost the whole game. I built walls in that city ASAP and didn't lose ONE unit (I guess the Russians lost over 100  ).
I didn't build more cities until the very endgame and finally landed safely in 1x37.

1625 a.d. conquest game .after i took out a civ and they would restart, i would use marco polos to give them gifts till they trade maps .that way you can go right to them and kill them again. one question what is a helper program ? never heard of them.

I'm still playing. I decided to go for conquest which is not my usual tactic. The AI have gifted me major cities on 3 occasions! Firstly, when I discovered Moscow, they attacked me with their only warrior from the city, and lost, leaving it free for me to walk straight in. In recent turns I've been able to walk straight into a size 7 French city and size 7 Persian city which were left undefended (there was no sign of any other AI's which could have killed all the defenders first for me)! What luck!! :D

Helper program = Program designed by a member of the community to help solve a problem (such as: "which techs will be offered next ?" or "where is the closest special tile ?").
Elephant U has published a long list a few days ago, but I don't remember where.

thank you. one more question .when you say which techs will be offered next do you mean like in civ 3? where you can click on say monarchy and it will study the pre requisites automatically? sometimes i will have what i need for a knowledge but it will not give me option of studying it. you said you do not use them .do you feel it is cheating? sounds like it might be to me.like steriods in baseball

You answered your own question. ;)

Civ 2 does not allow you to research any tech you want, it has an algorithm that calculates which ones will be available for you to choose from. Conversely, if you see a game that says 'direct tech' that means that you can select from any of the available techs.

It seems that I'll find time for this month's game, which promises to be quite challenging (I never payed the Civ2 earth map before, and this one will differ at unexpected places from the real world). I also like it that restarts are on which makes building a spaceship an alternative - or maybe not. What is the earliest possible conquest date ?

In Civ1 there are two civilizations for each colour and if for instance the romans leave the stage the russians will emerge instead ; but afterwards it stops. Is it the `same' in Civ2, so after the russians there is a second reappearance of the colour white in the form of the celts and then it stops, or is there an indefinite cycle of romans/russians/celts no matter how often they get destroyed ?

In Civ1 after 200 turns a `destroyed colour' reappears only if there are still free continents (like Australia) left, a small island like Madagascar is insufficient, and after 150 more turns respawning stops altogether. This seems to be different in Civ2. At the Emperor Level on a Large Map 200 turns elapse until AD 1500, and the estimate 1760 of lafayette has already been improved by mangor420 to 1625. Is it still necessary to settle all continents to achieve this, and could this already work at 1505 ? Is it possible to have an earlier conquest date by building lots of cities and not leaving `space' for destroyed civilizations to reappear ?

Sorry for asking questions that are probably already answered some place else, but I wasn't able to find these answers.

it is not necessary to have cities everywhere but it is necessary to have troops everywhere.had one city in south america and they reappered a lot down there so just a city wont stop them from showing up. they also will settle a small island.not sure about how many times they respawn think 3 per color but not sure never played with them on except g.o.t.m. the trick to finding them is to trade maps. when they restart they are only one city so you can give them a lot of knowledges ror there map. they do not have industrail base to use what you gave them and you go right to them. there is no earliest possable date to end.good luck peace

mangor, a list of helpers is in my signature.

:) Again you are afraid to ICS in the beginning. I have 7 cities in Great Britain, one another in Ireland.
I started with a daring to build those 250 cities andto go for a high score, but I think I will give up soon and conquer.

Is taking all civs in one turn only necessity so that there is no civ restart?

Do you think ICS is best when you play 'early landing'? :D

I haven't finished studying and testing 'civ respawn' (neither has Zenon AFAIK). I used to be convinced that wiping all civs on the same turn was the solution, but this is not true.

Have you read the thread over at Apolyton?

Yes, at least for first X cities. We can debate about the X, but in this GOTM I think X covers all England...

I remember I read something that deleting all civs in one turn needn't be sufficient, but I don't remember where.
