Zulu Flavor Units *PREVIEW*

I've been working on a human 3D model today, to make Civ3 units, and I'm going to start with the Zulu units.
I will base the units on Kal-El's excellent sketches which you can find Here!

Please go about the process of modifying your models for "civ proportions". It really adds to the quality of a unit when it conforms to the overall graphical style of the game.

I have been doing that. The hands are larger, and I've been trying to exaggerate the body parts. Maybe I should do it more though.

I'm using Maya.

And ok, yeah, I'll increase the size of the head and feet. And I'll thicken the diameter of both the arms and legs a bit. I think he needs to have a little bigger thighs. :)

He is proportioned after a real human. Although, that one could have been a slight bit too short...

I think it might be the perspective that fools you.
 
im looking at the 3rd one

it looks too short for the torso to me, but maybe its just me

Personally, I disagree with this statement, But then, I seem to be in the minority.
 
I've been increasing the size of the body parts. Mainly what Kal-El suggested.
Increased the size of the head, the diameter of the arms, larger feet (isn't visible that much here).

And I increased the diameter of his legs a bit.

excellent, I would like to see his feet a bit better, but from what I can see I think you have a good model to work with.

The reason for the feet thing is that at civ size it the ends of the extremeties are accentuated, and "small", i.e. naturally proportioned, hands and feet don't look as good as they do when slightly exagerated and enlarged.
 
If you have any photo reference to the weapons/shields and clothes you've shetched, please post links to them. Will help a lot in the modelling and texturing.
