Wich city placement strategy should we use?

There are the traditionals:

- RCP (Ring City Placement)
- OCP (Optimized City Placement)
- ICS (Infinity City Sprawl

I name my strategy as G2RS (Go to resources strategy). Go to resources and prefer rivers.

I think we should decide too if we want more or less dense city pattern. I prefer a mix, dense close to our capital.

What do you think?

I'm not that fond of settling in a pattern. I'd like to choose, based on location and surroundings. To allow, expecially our 20k city, to produce and grow well I opt for a not-too dense build, don't share too many tiles.

I therefore think we shouldn't define a pattern (which can obstruct us later in the game), but decide each city individually or by a dotmap.

I usualy throw darts on my computer screen and build a city where it lands. :p

But seriously, I think we should decide on city locations as they come, not decide on some pattern and just build by that.

I also would like to see us build cities based on the terrain and not a "system".

Remember people, we want our people to be productive. Whats the point of these stystems? This should be based on real history. Lets go for the resources and the wheat. Lets go for the Grassland even though it doesn't go with RCP or OCP. Lets forget the desert even though it does go with RCP and OCP. These systems are stupid. Lets place cities where they will grow up and beyond pop 30 and make them one of the greatest cities in the world of the Fanatican crown!

City placement strategies are best used when there is a choice between otherwise equivalent positions. A superior position always wins, regardless of how it fits into the world of alphabeet soup.

Suppose there are two equal positions, that will generate the same amount of food and same number of shields. One is equidistant from the capitol with other cities, the other one is a little further away. We should pick the one which is the same distance as other cities so it has lower corruption.

Contrariwise suppose there are two sites, one matching one of the strategies like RCP but with lower production, and another with much higher production which does not match RCP. We obviously throw RCP out the window and settle in the high production location.

In other words, use common sense. ;)

I trust our IA Minister to select sound settlement options and to poll the public properly on the matter. BTW, we have alot more land to choose from now. :D

DZ is right. We know a lot more about our immediate surroundings, and while the news is not great, I think we see enough map to pick a second city location.

I don't like RCP and OCP strategies. I prefer to place cities to control the maximum number of resources.

I don't like a very dense pattern too. I just use a dense concentration of cities around the capital.
