Hi guys,

Probably it has come to your minds that while there plenty of units for certain eras, others haven't been made or been left halfway to completion.

This has been particularly disturbing for the WWI period. So far there have been some cute Flavor tanks and Planes, recently some ships which can well be used for this era.

But there aren't suitable Infantry units to make even a half-decent scenario.

What we have so far is an English Infantry that came with the game, two German ones (Grenadier; Kaisetjäger) and one French one still in the making. That's that.
Sure, there is the NVA infantry (I use it as generic Asian Infantry) and the Eastern Infantry. But WWI ocurred mostly in Europe !!!

We'd urgently need Russian, Italian, Greek and Turkish infantry units 2 B made...

If anybody would like to make something in this direction... (hint, hint)

When I was making my WWI Scenario (before I combined with Marla_Singer for July 1914), I collected a ton of units. They are available for download in eight packs, here. They will all pretty much work for WWI, although there are only a few infantry in them, they can be very helpful on other fronts of a WWI scenario/mod as well.

Well...

A real french WWI infantry unit will be a good new for me.
The French Rifleman (with red trousers or "rouge garance" in french) is only representative of the beginning of the war.
Moreover, a french unit with the "bleu horizon" uniform could be used in a WWII scenario (but with khaki uniform).

The NVA infantry is not representative of the the Far East infantry of this era.
The Meiji Rifleman is the Japanese infantry unit of this time.
A chinese unit of the New Army Model is desperatly needed.

Austrian, Russian, Italian and Turkish units are needed too (Greece was neutral during the conflict...).

My French unit will be the one with the bleu horizon- I think it is more universaly useable than the previous one avec rouge garance- besides there is already a custom made French Rifleman Unit that goes into that direction.

I might make a pallete change to the Unit once it is done so we'll get a French 2nd WW unit as well, Aditionally, by changing the pallete of Nonnob's Grenadier to blue it is easy to get a WWII Skandinavian Unit.

I know that the NVA unit is not quite representative however there is no comparable "would-be" unit for any Asian civ for this period- Chinese troops were equiped rather medieval style until they were supplied by Western Powers against the Japanese in the 1920s. And the Meiji Rifleman is also of a previous era (remember that the Japanese were lagging behind a bit in that period, as their usage of WWI technology on the ground battlefield ocurred mostly in WWII times (imagine the highly motivated Japanese Soldier with better small arms equipment :o).
Nonetheless a Japanese WWI unit looks different than the Meiji- actually we'd need an Infantry style unit in Meiji uniform.

Russians definitly needed. Perhaps Austrians of the early days of WWI (later uniforms looked like their German allies' ones) would be also a good idea, though not as urgent, Italians and Turkish are a must, though. The Greeks would just be an interesting addition to the plot- I mean how about if Greece choses to fight for its independence in a time of Global turmoil :D ?
BTW- for the Americans I am using the "Sniper", a recoloured Infantry.

To Gogf:
These units are very fine, yet I am really just looking for infantry as infantry is the basic and mostly used troop type on the (WWI) battlefield- and as such the most identifiable flavor unit for any civ.

---

To Straczynski:
Yup, I remeber these two- the Jin Rho is definitly too modern ;) and the other one is one of those units that don't really look nice anywhere imho :( wouldn't fit in nicely

Your french WWI unit look pretty good !

I've seen some picture of the Russian-Japanese War (1905)and I think that the Meiji Rifleman is representative of the WWI era.

V+

Merci Monsieurs, :)

After this one is doneI can make easy modifications- something I had planned months back when making the "Pickelhaube" Kaiserjäger- now with this one it will be much easier... btw, since U mention it, can U post pics of the later times Meiji (I have to see the changes in Uniforn/Equipment- especially headwear and boots) as well as some pics of regular Turkish Infantry of WWI ???

I have the French 75 and a german arty gun in the works.

I have made a request for a 19th century Ottoman rifleman before, and within that thread, I also requested a 20th century WWI Turkish rifleman.

The WWI units are on the bottom. Ignore the top ones...

aaah- brilliant- this one looks very good (and in color :D ) -yes, that should be easy to convert with a pallete change and some helmet changes as intended. BTW, the French Grenadier is 75% ready and due soon.

I have ressearched a bit about uniform change between the 1905 Russo-Nipponese War and the taking of Tsingtao by the Japanese Army (Army Reforms did not take place until 1920). Turns out, the equipment these guys were carrying in that time did not see much improvement until just after WWI, during the beginning of the limited actions against the Chinese States. The unifroms however did already in the late phase of the War against Russia- from dark to some sort of brownish khaki (officers still carried black trusers with the new jacket), significantly darker than the WWII uniforms. The cavalry though kept the previous century (1894) old uniform

another image (this time Russo-Nipponese War) and a comparison with the new unform style of the pre-20s (Emperor Hirohito)- it is plain to see that the Japanese urgently needed to improve their uniforms to modern standards- yet they seem to have been lagging behind somewhat to bring new designs merely in the late phase of the conflicts- probably adopting it form its enemies due to practical reasons

^ ^ cool is anyone making this japanese unit? I think we still wore the black unifroms in ww1 in my history book from school I saw some black uniforms ^ ^;; but I know we also had brown, so I would like to see both <.< >.> I had plans to make ww1 japanese in brown I have all the things to do in poser but I am busy now T_T

The Naval Infantry, as did their attatched artillery regiments (sorry- I do not have knowledge of thei Japanese denominations- having an expert amongst us it would be cool to know what we should call them :)) wore these uniforms in this period of time!!!

Very nice Model, ShiroKobbure
