I thought this would be a great idea but take a lot of work if we want to make a newspaper.

What we will need is journlist, photograpers, sports writer (if you want a sports section), and any others you want.

Ok if we are going to do this we need at least 7 - 10 journalist and 3 - 5 photographers.

Duty of Journalist: To get stories and are good writers.
Duty of Photographers: To get pictures for the interesting stories from the journalists. Must get clear pictures.

The newspaper will be posted in the 3rd post in this thread.

We should at least try to do a new newspaper every or every other turn - chat.

So lets get started!!

New Rules:
1. You may request what story you want to do..Only one Journalist to a story unless the need a partner..
2. You may request a story...

I'll be a journalist.

interesting, i'll be a journalist, at least start out as one, might end up droping it, but here's a short sample story:

reports of babolonian forces armed with stone axes are creating several rumors throughout berry. the city of huntington has reported seeing a strange man on the outskirts of thier borders. in an interview hanumbari declined to comment, but did issue a statement saying they were simply there for scouting forces. Santa lucia and duex rivers also are reporting forces within thier borders. with the recent colonization south of berry heads are turning asking "are we ready for a war?" most discussion in the military sector has revolved around how to beef up our army. nothing can be certin, but some civilians are taking up arms, proving a lesson, always be prepared.

I would like to be the Photographer :)

Excellent idea!

I hope you can work out a way to get your content onto the website as well. Or, at the minumum, a link back to here would be nice. Could you contact Fionn and see if this would be possible?

Good call! I'm new to the DemoGame, but before I stumbled across this group I had this exact (okay, maybe not quite as good) idea rolling around in my head. I'd love to do a journalist column myself, but I probably should get better acquainted with the world you guys have going here first.

You could always write a few items on that exact process - what did you do to become familiar with the game?

It would be an interesting read ...

I don't think we need THAT many people, maybe one of each type.

An excellent idea! Is it safe to assume that this periodical is headquartered in the cozy, seaside community of Huntington? :goodjob:

You may want to look at the archived forums for some issues of the old Fanatikan Zeiten from demogame 2. It may help you with some ideas for this paper.

Perhaps we are getting a little ahead of ourselves, as there are major logistical and technological gaps our civilization has yet to overcome in order to cheaply and quickly mass-produce any type of "newspaper" --that is the correct word, correct? forgive me, but it is foreign to my ears-- can be made.

Make no mistake my fellow citizens, that even with the advent of writing, it is not necessarily a quick task to do. A scribe --and there are so few of us, trained to move our fine Huntington dyes in a legible fashion-- must be diligent about his or her work; dye is expensive, and the ledger must be easily read by all who know how.

What our society uses to write on, named "tapa," is from the soft bark and stems of plants, cooked and then hammered flat until it is thin. Water is then added to turn the plant into pulp. Next, using a floating mould, the tapa is evenly and thinly distributed. We carefully lift the screen out of the water mould and let it dry in the sun or near a fire.

Another problem is that the plants that we require to produce our written works is that they are more readily required for textiles, supplying our basic clothing needs. Tapa is certainly not as important as the clothes on our back, no matter how much we may see the need of it, and tapa is also quite more expensive.

--Out of RPG:
I am assuming that we have not yet invented paper. Civ3 does not specifically cite paper in the writing advance, and in actuality the earliest attributed invention of paper was by the Chinese around 100AD. Before paper, the process I partially described above created what is known as tapa and was used extensively (and readily found in equitorial nations), most notably in the Egyptians using the papyrus plant. However, as paper is such a common word in our modern language, I don't think we should be checking ourselves on such a fine level of technicality. Just trying to infuse some (relative) historical accuracy to technilogical advances not stated by Civ3. For a complete history of paper you can visit this link--

Yet do not think I am against the arts at all! Nay, for in my younger days I forsook all of my possessions, save the writings I was able to trade for, gathering the stories of the the barbarians of the western desert, and even to the sea itself! In turn I can share this shorter stories if there is a crowd that would like to hear them. It is just that currently it is economically as well as practically impossible to regularly circulate any paper to the entire population of Fanatika. However, stories can still be spread word of mouth, and I would be happy to write down any that a citizen would like preserved, provided I may keep a copy for my own collection.

well, as we are the french, the french word for 'newspaper' is 'journal' and 'great' is 'grand' so how 'bout "The grand journal" ?

MÛRE--Citizens of Mûre are calling out to the fanatican government for protection. currently Mûre's garrison is simply a band of militia men with axes [aka a warrior]. most military anylists i talked to said our garrison at Mûre could not withstand the possible attack of skilled people that shoot twigs with rocks on them. These people seem to be unique to the babylonians. some people have taken to calling this unit a 'bowman,' huh, go figure. Also acompying the bowmen are a pair of babylonian militia. they are in a thick wood to the SSW of Mûre. it is unclear exactly what the babylonian forces hope to acomplish, but it's probably for 1 of three reasons. 1) they are scouting. 2) they are after barbarians. or 3) they seek to capture Mûre and it's iron, or destroy it. it is unkown wheter the babylonians have already entered a time of great gold and prosperity after battles with barbarians, or they are operating under standard economics. one thing is for sure though, if we are attacked most people will not be prepared.
