After there were some trials: mI- mIV and only one of these came to play (and was a loss - mIII), here's the last try:

mV - indiana jones -wonder hunters

weird title, isn't it? Yeah, I wanted to have a cool thread title, so here it is... :) But that's what the game is all about:

wonders:

With C3:C, a new winning condition was introduced: the wonder victory: When every wonder is built, the game ends, and the civ with the most (built) wonders wins!
And this is what we are gonna do! Building wonders like crazy!

civ: to be determined
map: pangaea
climate: random
size: standard --> 8 random civs
aggresion: MAX
barbarian activity: restless
difficulty: to be determined
special rules:
  • NW-Rule: never war, light version! which means, that we are not allowed to make a war, or provoke one, but if we are atacked, we can act the way we want. We are not allowed to take a city with a wonder in it. We are also not allowed to raze it. But we can get the city by diplomacy.
  • every winning condition is out, especially the new wonder condition!
  • Do you want a 5CC, 3CC, OCC or normal game. I was wondering - because the game idea seemed easy to me - if we'd have to raise difficulty?
  • no exploits! :rolleyes:

Argh, every person I've played with in previous SGs are moving on to new games! I really like the idea since I've never played that kind of game (except in scenario 1 of Conquests), but I too must pass this and can only ask that you'll let me in on mVI when it comes out :thumbsup:

I think 5CC is appropriate for this game - there is no need for grabbing more lands. A first ring is enough for building wonders.

For difficulty, I'm not sure. I am now playing on Emperor but I've never done any 5CC before. Also I always fall behind on wonders prioir to Industrial Age. Maybe Monarch?

Yeah, I'd also have voted for 5CC, or 3CC. I also don't get to build many wonders, but I never have concentrated on it. And we do not know how the AI will cope with the wonder victory as the only one, do we?

Actually, anyone knows for sure how this wonder victory works?

I think it's virtory points based. However, are only wonders counted as "victory points"? How about killing units, capturing cities? In the Conquests of Mesopotamia, these are also counted as victory points so in the end not only you need to build a lot of wonders, you also need to make sure you earn enough military vp too.

If that's the case, we cannot only go the peaceful way as AIs who fight a lot will get much more points than us. That will change our strategy drastically.
 
I thought they only have an impact if there's a par in wonders? (in the mesopotamian scen, it often happens, that2 civs have 2 wonders, or 3.. .:) ) But I'll have to check that, I'm not sure about it. :)

In Mesopotamia, VP is VP, no matter it comes from wonders or military actions. When all wonders are built, the CIV with the highest VP wins.

In the Epic game, I'm not sure how it works. Maybe it means "when all wonders are built, CIV with the highest score wins". If so, 5CC probably wouldn't work, as you need large land to get high score.
 
I think the winner when all wonders are built (in a normal SP game) is whoever has the highest firaxis score, but I'm not certain.
 
So, with this many of negative posts, I would suggest:

I try and play an epic game with only wonder condition and look how it works. This will consume some time, and perhaps then, some people of the above negative ones would like to play?

Or, if we find more, we can play now.... :)

@Greebley, yes, the amount of wonders count, but if there's a par between two civs, what counts then? That's what we are discussing.

I think it would be an interesting game. Not many people have tried wonder victory yet. We may be the first to explore it in SG. :D

In my current emperor game, I just lost Sistine to Chinese by 2 turns! They got a golden age and beat me. :wallbash: Lost 471 shields by switching to University. So if we play this game, be sure to put Chinese in!
 
If you're still looking for starters, I'll join.

I've not played a city restriction since an OCC in civII and I tend not to pritortise wonders. I normally play emperor so Monarch looks about right
 
We are still looking, but it doesn't seem that we get enough. - 2 or 3 more!

And, I couldn't play a full epic game, but there are two theories:
a)the one with the most wonders wins!
b)when all the wonders are built, the game ends and then the points count ;)

It doesn't say anything in the ciliopedia, so. and if only the wonder victory is selected, in the v screen, it shows the points (big empire...) and the count of numbers. Whereas the wonders are under the timelimit!

So I think, it won't be a OCC, 5CC or 3CC!

Have you verified it? If Diplo is not enabled, UN doesn't show up as a wonder, thus it shouldn't affect the condition of "all wonders are built".

Anyway, I feel this wonder victory is not something worth trying..mitsho, should we try something else?

hmm, ok. As you see i have tried much to get a sg started. It doesn't matter for me, what we play, as long as we play a mX-game. there were some really weird ideas:

-age of discovery: We can only go for a win, when we have conquered whole europe (as a european power!)

-mesopotamian scenario: win by elimination (or domination!) we'd have to be fast because of wonder

-special conquest: a normal epic game, but we have determined our foes before and have made a rank. we have to go conquering after this rank! (e.g. : 1. spain 2. zulu 3. babylon 4....) we are not allowed to attack someone else (Even on our territory!) who isn't 'at the turn' !

-democracy: You have a dice and you throw it to look how you have to play. This can be done in a very specific way (shows exactly what you have to do) or less specific one!

-no roads. simply, we are not allowed to build roads (or rr)

-traitless (...)

-playing switzerland (just for me! ;)) on Marla's Europe map!

-...
