Citizens of Fanatica,

This is a discussion thread for drawing up some plans for war with Egypt and things we would want to accomlis should a war come up. Here are things I would want:

- A mobilization period where we gather our troops together and begin building some more, specifically Galleys. This would likely take at most 10 turns, possibly much less depending on where they drop their settler.

- Military alliances with Greece and Babylon, Greece for strategic purpouses and Babylon for diplomacy.

- Upgrading and building Swordsmen and also workers for infastructure during the war.

I would ask that 2/3rds of Fanatica's effort (cities) be put into a potential war to create new units and upgrading. At some cases, there may be enough forces on hand to proceed, but for a campaign across the seas we will need many more forces than we currently have.

As I think that we will not be able to kill egypt at this time, I propose that we make peace with them on favorable terms. They could give us either Techs or if we are at the same level, gold. If we hit them really badly, possibly cities or other such items.

These are my current conditions for a plan and its general structure of things that we would need to do.

My assessment is as follows:

If we declare war now, we need 2-3 horsemen, 2-3 swords, and the elite warrior. If we loose a unit (not very likely, since we have both powerful swords and fast horses) they need to be replaced.

Most of the fighting will be between Egypt and Greece. We only kill any weak landing force. We should build some roads (easy with our industrious workers) to give us superior mobility.

I would not attempt any invasion. This war is purely for getting our western province, slowing Greece and Egypt down, and keeping Babylon from attacking us.

My dear Colleague Minister.
I hereby declare that I am strongly against this plan. This plan will lead to decrease in trade and potential trade. Having a war with a nation will automatically cease all trades that are going on with them and block potential trade for a large amount of time.

Furthermore: If we commit 2/3 of our cities to units (read: non-research) we'll get behind in the Technology race. I can't let that happen.

Your plan is bad for Trade and Technology. I cannot concur.

Rik Meleet
T&T Minister.

How would you suggest we handle it? Alterations are possible and as Tao said, we probably will need only about 1/5th in reality if were going for the defense of Audiac. This plan was in the event of a cross-invasion.

My general feeling at this point is leave the future Egyptian city alone for the time being. We need to concentrate on finishing settling our land and making sure we have an adequate defensive force.

However, if any action was taken, I would want to limit it more along the lines of tao's post above.

Director of Infrastructure Reply - If my plan goes through (and a change to bring DR up to a top priority city), then we can have several 15+ spt cities. (atleast 3). That gives us a sword every 2 turns if my planning for terrain improvement is correct.
