It’s time, and probably past time, to plan and establish our FP city. So, where should it go? When should we start it? Should we build it the hard way, or gamble on a Great Leader?

Thanks!

Time to kickstart this.

We've got two options with the FP. First, we can build it now and get a second core going immediately. Second, we can wait for a bit, hoping we have successful wars and acquire more land. We can then build the FP farther from our main core.

Personally, I want to build it now, and build it in Groton. It's got decent production right now, and some potential for the future. It's got fresh water, and a granary being built. It's got multiple hills, and good land in general. In short - it's a potential powerhouse.

If we go with the FP being built now and built in Groton, I want to do the following. First, switch the Granary to a Courthouse. As soon as we're in Republic, immediately rush the Courthouse, then start the FP. Corruption is currently greater than 50% - even one extra shield a turn will have an impact on the FP. Alternatively, if we switch to Republic soon, cash rush the Granary, build the Courthouse for one turn, then rush it, then start the FP.

Citizens, the FP is the number one project during the Middle Ages. Building it will boost the production in our Eastern cities to nice levels. We've got Germany and Russia to our south-east, with Babylon purely to the south. Having a good core that can produce units is needed - an FP in Groton will give that to us.

Proposal:

Fanatica shall adopt the following approach for the construction of our FP:

Groton shall be the designated site for the Forbidden Palace.

Groton shall switch to a Temple, and have it cash rushed.
Groton shall then build a Courthouse, and have it cash rushed after 1 turn.
Groton shall then build the Forbidden Palace.

Definately Groton. It had a good, central posisition around some nice (and future nice) land.

I would second Groton, Its quite close to the Iron resource and some good future real estate.

Poll will be going up this afternoon plus provisional cash requests will be made of the Senate, speak now if you've got an opinion on this ...

Sounds like a plan to me, except Groton already has a Temple.

It would cost 536 gold to rush a Cathedral, or 376 gold for a Colusseum. I would tend to go for the cathedral for the extra content citizen and 160 gold more.

Doh! You are correct - should have looked at Krabius' summary chart.

Plan 1b
1. Switch to Courthouse and rush
2. Build Cathedral for 1 turn, then rush
3. Build Forbidden Palace

Expensive, yes. Worth it - yes! We will end up with the city on the FP being happy hopefully for the entire process. The courthouse is slightly overkill, and useless after the FP, but with a current production of 2 shields, it's needed NOW.

Groton would not be my choice for a Forbidden Palce. It is too close to Deux Riviere. I would wait until we acquire by force more territory using knights (which we still have to upgrade from still to build horsemen). And hope for getting a Great Leader in the war to hurry the FP.

If the people decide to build the FP in Groton, I would agree hurrying the courthouse (216 gold). The I would mine another hill and work the iron hill plus this hill instead of a gras land.

And I would support (at least) 10% lux plus trading for incense. The trade can be done in 2 turns, when we have connected the southern dyes. Now we have to pay 15gpt for incense, I guess it would be 5-10gpt plus dyes, i.e. 100-200 gold over 20 turns instead of 536 for the cathedral. No need to hurry cathedral!!!

This would allow 7 productive people in Groton and finish the FP within at most 20 turns.

The poll has been posted here.

I fullheartedly agree with Tao that the rush of a cathedral is a unnecessary waste of money. Why not trade the incense with the Greeks when it comes available? That will have a positive effect on citizen moods all over Fanatica, instead of the local positive effect of the cathedral, which costs a lot more gold.
Using the luxury slider will also have a positive effect over entire Fanatica, so why choosing the expensive and not very effective measure if you can choose for a cheaper measure, which will have a greater effect?
