I find it troubling that in our modern republic the practice of slavery still exists. I believe we should immediately pass an amendment to outlaw this practice and to establish homesteads in our cities for the slaves that currently toil under our whips.

1 - We only have a few Babylonian workers.
2 - We *NEED* workers right now. The worker plan isn't finished yet.
3 - Build them into our cities, and we automatically give our cities a flip risk.
4 - Build them into our cities, and if we go to war against Babylon, cities will riot. ("Stop the agression...")

I am dismayed by your lacking of a moral compass. You wish to continue to exploit the people against their will because "we need workers". I would hope that our enemies treat any of our captured workers in a more humane manner.

Im sure they will.... not. Our enemies are evil. We are.... providing work to these people. Mabye they can join our cities or we can just disband them if keeping them is so bad.

I agree completely with Zorven. It is time we move our culture forward and that includes ending the widespread use of forced labor. Along those lines, it is also important that we move towards a more representative government than our current despotism.

This is a representative government, the thing is that we are weak infastructurally. We need to improve our territory in any way possible. I would get rid of those workers, but first we must either find replacements or have our buildup be completed.

Disbanding the workers is too cruel.
Returning them to their homelands: The workers don't want that; they fled for their oppressors.
We can pay 1 gold every turnchat to the government for each worker of that nation working for us. We are then renting labour.

Does that sound like a good "middle road" ?

no, babylon dosent deserve any help. Especially not from us who they threatened and attacked in the past. We lost many men in that war and it is still fresh in our minds. Babylon deserves to fall, not be helped by us. If it is an absolute problem, give them to someone else.

We should adhere to higher moral standards the the AIs.

The AIs often disband captured workers. We allow them a very long life. Nothing wrong with that. :D

Don't disband them, let them settle in one of our fine cities! :D Other cities can then recruit domestic workers to take up the slack. While we'rat it let's raise the minimum wage, too. ;)

I don't oppose Civ-slavery in the least, given that this is a computer game and all, plus we don't have to pay maintenance on them. ;)

On this I agree with Boots - it's a game and they're maintenance free workers, we keep them.

Indeed, if it was life the other option would have been my immediate choice, but this is a game...

I'm ok with keeping them. But we need to treat them fairly. There is a reason they work only half as fast as Fanatican workers; respect. We have to respect them and not treat them as slaves.

Let's start by paying them normal wages. In game-terms: pay their nation 1 gold per worker in each turnchat. If for some reason we can't pay their nation temporarily (we are bankrupt / war with that civ / etc.) we remember and pay the deficit extra as soon as we can. If we can't pay their nation, period (they are destroyed), we consider this as: we are giving refugees a safe haven; their reward is that hey live with us.

The next step in giving them respect is guarantees for work. Any worker wants to be sure their job still exists next year/turn. In game-terms: never disband, form a colony/airfield/etc. or join them to a city. Also don't use them as 'bait' to divert an opponents' attack. They are working for us. It doesn't matter if they do that voluntarily or unvoluntarily; they are giving their blood, sweat and tears for the greater glory of Fanatica. Don't betray them !

The final step in giving them respect is in listening to their wishes and concur to their wishes. This includes taking care of their safety. Most of this is covered in the first 2 items I've stressed. This also includes keeping them safe from their former nation's retaliation acts; treating them the same rights as our native workers and to listen to their opinions. If they feel bad about how we treat their mother-country, we need to listen. We do not neccesarily follow their point of view; but we have to take it into account. If they feel we are treating their native country unfairly, don't ignore it; we will loose an important part of our nation. But also don't squander our nation's goals because of it. Balance.

so: don't set them free, but treat them fairly !

May someone please tell me why we should pay babylon for some stupid morals that we feel? This is a game, and we are much better off keeping them and not giving the owners anything back. If they are such a problem, then disband them or put them in our cities. I will not stand for any aid to our enemies. I agree with your second wish RM, but the First one I am totally against. The third one I am skeptical on as you cant really know what they think of our treatment of their "Mother Country". If they did, they wouldnt be in fanatica knowing what we have done to Babylon.

I also dont mind the slavery in the Civ3 game. They are low maintanance workers, though the penalty is they work slower. Plus we cannot "abolish" slavery since due to game mechanics, we will always get a slave (Captured worker) when we capture another civ's settler (Equals 2 slave workers) and/or another civ's worker

do you also suggest keeping them CG?

Yes, I would suggest that we keep them. Though we must be cautious if we have the slave workers join any of our cities since they would create a citizen that is not a Fanatican and would be prone to be unhappy in times of war against the citizen's homeland (The infamous "Stop the aggression on our motherland" appears in the reasons of unhappyness)

In shortness, I recomend on keeping them. Personaly, I never run the risk of having a slave worker join nay of my cities in my empire.
