This just in: Babylon has just declared war on Germany! Those swords and bowman that were passing through Mure were headed towards Germany, probably to sneak attack them. Should we start our war on Babylon soon? We'll need atleast 20-25 knights to start with. If we can catch Babylon while their main forces are in Germany, we stand a very good chance of capturing cities. We'll also have to watch out for their culture, since a city of ours just flipped to them...

Had we gone the cav path like I said before, we would have had muskets, and maybe even cavalry before Babylon could build their first musket... BTW, Musketeers = Golden Age.

Well, is it the optimal time for our golden age? Do we have a forbidden palace yet? What kind of government are we in? Are we trying to build any wonders?

Id say wait about 10 turns or so for a complete armed buildup, then hit Babylon from behind to maximise our effect as they would be tied up with Germany for a bit and their forces would be over there mostly.

Even if Babylon does have muskets, remember this. In the Ancient age, knights vs. muskets would be comparible to Mounted Warriors vs. hoplites/legions. We have the advantage - retreat. We can also cut off their saltpeter and iron.

Their east side is rather vulnerable, as we can attack 3-4 cities in 1 turn. Also, Babylon is setting aside an amount of gpt for the German war, and with us in the mix, they'll be pushed back even more.

The muskets should not be too much problem if we come at them with sufficient numbers. I would support a good plan to take out Babylon.

We could assemble a bunch of knights in the forest west of Mure. In the first turn, they can take Lagash and Larsa. Zariqum to follow. Afterwards attack Akkad to take away their horses. The rest is a peace of cake.

I personally however would wait till we are close to/know mt and attack with cavalry. Babylon now is weak compared to us and the scale will continue to tilt in our advantage. Thus I would invest now in science (libraries: Santa Lucia, Bootsville, Liebling) and pop growth.

My choice would be England.
By the time a musketeer reaches England, the wonder building will be done (or mostly done).

tao: not if we gift England a city ;)
Still takes too long. The gifted city first has to build a unit for us to attack. :D

not; it comes with a free unit (if I recall correctly). I am testing this in a different game right now.

Tested it: the gifted city gets 1 defending unit (the strongest currently available for that civ). Remember that will be a spear for England; they haven't got iron, nor saltpeter available for that city.

New Morgana, Kobayashi city or Antillia qualify for this, in my eyes.

Sounds interesting; right ?

Not New Morgana, since it would loose its hurried temple.

We would give them one of our cities, filled with loyal French citizens, just so we could declare a phony war upon them to trigger our golden age?

Where is the honor in that? Where is the pride we are known for? Would you go to the homes of those French citizens destroyed in your phony war and try to explain to the grieving child why the rest of her family has died?

'Tis a foul, underhanded ploy, that should only be done by desperate men without a shred of decency. We have no pressing need of this - we have several civs we are in contact with to honorably declare our intentions.

No, if we desire conflict, let us do so openly, respecting the rights of all French citizens. Not this underhanded ploy reeking of deception and treachery.
