As soon as the economies of Civ4 would go past Mercantillism (discovery of Economics/Completion of Smith's Wealth of Nations), there should be a "barometer" for the global economy. The economy would be influenced by wars and technological advances. For example, the global economy is stimulated incredibly by The Internet wonder, but will go into a recession after a large terrorist attack.

Also, this may be applied to different sectors (tourism, agriculture, ...) but that may be too complicated :-)

well, there are some good ideas. The internet thing is obvious, but maybe force all civs to build the internet, just make the first internet more expensive. I am unsure how the terrorist thing would be handled in the current form. If there was a wider trading of goods and services (maybe some civs would be more efficient at creating food, others at building city improvements, or military units, etc.), an attack against a country would hurt their trading partners (which maybe would include everybody). I think there should be far more trade in this game.

I like the idea, I would be curious to how it would be implimented to its fullest. And maybe with this Global Fund, the UN could become of more value and help fund weaker or countries it supports in wars.

Ya, I like it. The UN wonder could also be built, not as a Diplomatic win, but as a wonder that lets its members vote on issues. Along with a global economy and other peaceful elements, it can really tie peaceful allies together, to win peacefully. (Afterall, Civ 3 ,for the moment, is more on military/conquest side than the culture/peaceful side)

I'm interested in the idea. However I don't know what I opinion would be unlit you can figure out how you would implement it, what effects it would have, and how your not going to make it complicate the game. My current thinking is that the "barometer" changes the amount of gold you get from tiles. Is that what you are thinking, or is it more about having an effect on the liklyhood that civs will trade with you (or the amount trades are worth)?

Cool. And how about the net sum of your relationships/respect with the other civs also modifying your actual wealth or giving some kind of percentage bonus to your tax score?

You need something to gain from this. perhaps something like X percent per X amount of turns in gpt.

Just make Internet a tech.

Sounds a great idea. I could easily allow the concept of superpowers on the game fighting over limited resources which could skyrocket in value. This would be good for the game but in multiplayer even better.
