This is my second go at a story game, in case you didn't read my first attempt, you can do so here.
Lincolns great American civilization failed the last time, but I am back for revenge ;)

Game rules are as follows;
Map Size: Huge
Land Mass: Pangaea
Water Coverage: Medium
Climate: Normal
Temperature: Temperate
Age: 4 Billion
Difficulty Level: Regent

All other rules set to Default, except Culturally Linked Start Locations (I turned it off) and Winning Conditions; I've turned off Diplomatic Victory and Space Race. Those two victory conditions are 'silly' in my opinion, as it normally always end up with the most advanced civilization winning the game. I don't want to focus 100% on the big tech race, but rather defend my civilization throughout the times.

PART ONE

4000 BC - The dawn of time
After years of being nomads, living in a backwards society, the American tribe have finally mustered a Settler, Worker and Scout unit, all led by the great Abe Lincoln. Their task is to found a small town, and expand from that starting point to become a Civilization to stand the test of time.
Nobody knew what was out there, for all we knew there were other advanced tribes like ourselves around, in addition to dangerous, raging barbarians - but Lincoln wasn't scared, and had faith in his people - so at the year 4000 BC, the first American town - Washington - was founded.
The American Scribes immediately started looking into a new means of communication; The Alphabet. Our hope was that one day we'd be able to communicate in other ways than speech, and maybe even increase the intelligence of our civilization!

Our starting location:

Good luck, an thats one helluva startin point...

Go get 'em, cowboy!

Looks like there's either tundra or desert behind those moutains, though.

Thanks guys :)
Yes, behind these mountains are fields of desert, but luckily some Flood Plains too!

Anyway, let's continue the story:

3950 BC - More Settlers!
Our Scout, who had headed east towards the mountains, had stumbled across a friendly small village; the Teoihuacans. Our peaceful people immediately got on the natives good side, which ended up with them giving us a Settler!
The Scout had spotted some Flood Plains to the South, which would give us a great deal of food, so the Settler headed there immediately. 250 years later, in the year 3700 BC, New York was founded.

Friendly natives:

3300 BC - Gems
In the mountains southwest of New York, our Scout had found enormous mountain ranges, filled with a new, glittering material. Our brave explorers named it Gems, and this would surely be of use for our citizens.
The same year, Washington broke out into massive chaos because our citizens were unhappy. We decided to spend some money on luxuries - 10% of our income to be exact - to entertain the people. It helped a great deal; the city was calm again.

3050 BC - Boston
Washingtons Settler founded a new city northwest of our capital; Boston.
Later that year, our Scout, wandering through the forest- and jungle-rich fields up north, stumbled across Ivory of the finest quality; another resource that would make our citizens happy!

2590 BC - Philadelphia
Our fourth city was founded in the year 2590, just southeast of New York.

Philadelphia:

2510 BC - A new project
In the year 2510 BC, Washington had finished training its second Settler. Because we had 3 cities in addition to our capital now, all building Settlers, our craftsmen felt it was time for a change in production orders in the capital. They felt that our people had the knowledge to raise an enormous pyramid in Washington - a great Wonder for the glory of the American people!
It would take decades of hard work, but would put the Americans in a position above everyone else - so I gave them the green light.

2390 BC - Atlanta
Just north of Washington, on the borderline of all the newly discovered jungle, Atlanta was founded in 2390 BC.

2150 BC - Science
In 2150 BC, our Scribes revealed the secrets behind an Alphabet. They were immediately instructed to start research on Writing, to put the newly discovered alphabet into proper usage.
In the meantime, our Scouts, who had been exploring the enormous continent we were situated on for centuries, had learned a lot from the local native tribes. They had so far taught us the technology of Bronze Working, Iron Working, The Wheel, Warrior Code, Ceremonial Burial, Mysticism, Horseback Riding and Philosophy! Thanks to these native tribes, we were throned as the most advanced civilization in the entire world!

As our Scout units sat in my Palace, drinking afternoon tea before they were to return to their exploration tasks, I asked them if they had met anyone else out there.
"Apart from the small, friendly, local tribes we've stumbled across, we haven't met anyone else. Perhaps we are alone on thi..." - Jameson was aborted by Weller, our Scout working up north: "I haven't seen any people myself, but..."
"But what?", I asked impatiently
"But I've seen... remains of them", he said in a sad, soft voice. "Far up north, almost where the Tundra begins. We saw broken spears and old, rotten, dead bodies."
"That proves nothing!", shouted my advisor out loud, continuing: "That may be from vicious Barbarians, or simply local tribes fighting eachother".
"I don't think so", Weller replied. "The technology behind some of these weapons were far above the level we've seen in the villages. I know it may sound silly, Sir, but I have a gut feeling. I'm sure there's something up there.. Sorry, someone, not something. I really think we should spare some extra resources to get that part of our world explored immediately!"
Weller had just given me something to think about. A lot of the northern part of our continent was still unexplored, so I ordered New York to produce another Scout, who would accompany Weller in his journey northwards, to look for more evidence and remains, and maybe even find some actual people!

2110 BC - Chicago
Chicago was founded in 2110 BC, just south of Boston.
The location for this new city was ideal; it was surrounded by hills and mountains full of gold, and flood plains to feed the citizens.

1700 BC - Seattle
Our seventh city, Seattle, was founded to the west of Philadelphia. Our Settlers had reported this as an area full of sand, but when they discovered a mountain with gold underneath, in addition to some flood plains, he immediately settled. Seattle was founded in in 1700 BC.

1675 BC - Contact!
Our scout, currently exploring the southeastern frozen peninsula, reported back with amazing news - he had stumbled across another advanced civilization! He told us about these new people, who called themselves The Greeks.
They had a very different building technique than ours, which was very appaerent in Sparta - the city our Scout had reached. Their houses consisted of Doric columns and white marble. The important buildings in the city were huge, and quite magnificent, as Barkin said in his own words. He carried on; "The Greeks are very friendly people. The inhabitants of Sparta immediately saw that I was different than them; different clothes, different language, and different culture - but they weren't sceptical. They were almost foolish if you ask me, welcoming a total stranger like that! They transported me to their capital, Athens, where we met with the Greek King; Alexander."
"So what happened? How did the king treat you? How was their empire compared to ours?" - I had thousands of questions, so we assembled an envoy, and went to talk to Alexander. He was, like all the other Greeks that Barkin told us about, very polite. Unfortunately he had nothing to offer us; they had 2 cities, no unknown technologies, and no gold. We gave them 10 gold as a gift, to show our appreciation of neighbours, and to demonstrate what a friendly and peace-loving people the American citizens really is.

The Greek city of Sparta (note: the village taught us the secret of Mathematics):

1650 BC - San Francisco
San Francisco was founded in the year 1650 BC, in the mountains just northwest of Boston. Our empire now consisted of a total of 8 cities, and compared to the backwards Greeks, who only had 2 cities, we were supreme.
2 newly trained conscript Warriors, given to us by friendly native tribes, were sent to the Greek peninsula, to block the entrance to our side of the world. The last thing we wanted was Greeks snooping around in our territory!

1575 BC - Another civilization
Weller and Jonesy, who had strolled deeply into the unknown landmasses up north, had explored a great deal of land since their expedition began.
While exploring some hills and mountains, Jonesy suddenly spotted an unknown unit. It seemed like a Scout aswell, but definitely from another nation. His clothes were dark brown and ragged, and it looked like he came from a very poor civilization. He escorted Jonesy to his leader; Catherine. She was the queen of these people, called the Russians. Unfortunately she was furious with us, and had nothing to trade with. We gave the Russians 15 gold pieces, in a desperate hope of improving their attitude towards us - and she seemed to soften up, and got a more cautious look in her eyes.
We left Catherine alone, and Jonesy kept exploring.
The same year the clever American Scribes discovered the secrets of Writing. They told us about an ability to establish an embassy with other civilizations, so we invested a total of 140 gold pieces to establish embassies in both Athens (Greece) and Moscow (Russia).

1475 BC - The secrets of Spice
The American people had been through positive times, with our scouts discovering technologies, foreign civilizations and Warrior units.
In 1475 BC, our Scouts again reported back to Washington, this time they had found a new resource in the jungle north of Boston. This new resource was named Spices, and our Scout felt that this new, exciting material, would make our food taste better, which in turn would make our people happy. All that was needed now, was to connect this new resource to our emprie by road.

Comments to PART ONE:

I've gotten a good starting position, with flood plains to the south and east - and I was very lucky to get a Settler the second turn!
Because I got a lot of cities fast, I haven't wasted time building Granaries, but are waiting for the Pyramids instead.
I've landed on a huge continent, and it seems like the only rival civs are located faaar away, so I have a lot of expansion potential.

The biggest problem so far is that Washington is located far away from the coast, so I haven't built any coastal cities yet. Since I've now got 8 or 9 cities producing Settlers, I'll probably send the next one down to the coast, but until I get a Government change, the city wont be much productive. This probably means (unless I'm very very lucky somehow) that I wont get the Colossus or Great Lighthouse :(

Anyway, the most important tasks now is to complete the Pyramids, so that my cities will literally spit out Settlers - for full colonization of our continent.
I also need to connect those luxuries asap, as I currently have none connected, and unhappiness is slowly becoming a problem.

Looking forward to continue the game after work today!
Comments/tips/bashing/advice is always welcome :)

álso, those spices would help... and your near the Russians and the Greeks, i hate them...

Hehe, I wont send a Settler far away, I'll build my way towards the Iron instead :)

Well, the Greeks aren't bad, I'll soon have control over the peninsula chokepoint, so no problems there! I dislike the Russians like you, but they're not the worst. Atleast there are no Babylonians or Persians nearby - cause THAT would've been bad :p

Great story so far! What do you use to make your screenshots? I've never had problems with the Russians, but I HATE the greeks. They are impossible to invade early on in the game thanks to that Hoplite, well not impossible, but twice as hard as anyone else I've ever started nearby :D

Thanks :)

I only use the Prt Scr button in-game, then crop & modify them with Paint Shop Pro 8.

The distance to both enemies are very far, so I think I'll concentrate on expansion for now. There's a lot of landmass available for me, I've blocked the Greeks off my continent, and soon my 3-man Russian blockade is set up too :)

Once I've settled on the landmass available, I'll start building a military and crush those bloody Greeks - their peninsula is very fertile!

Good Job! I like it.

still hoping for a update, but since Berren finished his last story too, i count on him :p

Thanks for the trust, but this time I'll have to fail :(

Unfortunately my PC crashed beyond all recognition, and after trying to fix it for 3 days - with various Windows CD's and help from friends, all hope was lost, and I had to reformat! That didn't help either, and it turned out that the HD is broken :(

This means that I've lost all my savegames..

I'm preparing to start another Story game though, and after reading another thread in this forum I think I'll go for the Greeks. Never played with them before, so it should be a good challenge :)
Just need to receive my new HD first, hopefully it'll arrive in my mailbox before the weekend!

o, too bad :(

my HD was broken too, but i couldn't get in the whole system, he couldn't recognize my c drive anymore! and just when i was playing a real great game :(

but, i'm looking forward to your new story
