Two things:

(1) Tile Sharing: When in an alliance, or maybe just when in a MPP, your units and your ally's unit can share the same tile. I feel this would be a positive move towards more RL situations, similar to multi-national forces. Plus, it is something I like about SMAC.

(2) When in a MPP, or alliance, you and your ally can enter one another'c cities. Two benefits: (a) heal faster if the ally has a barrack and (b) you can sneak a peak at how your ally's ecoonomy is doing and vice versa. The information wouldn't be usefule to the AI, but it would affect MP. Plus, it is something I like about SMAC.

Any sanfus w/ this in the civ series?

These are good ideas and I see no real trouble implementing them. This would also be like squatting to flies with a one strike, as some people have suggested that submarines should be able to be in the same tile with enemies. This would perhaps need new coding, which would be the same code that was used here. I don't know about the sneak peaking, but the healing is a must. If I remember correctly, they had this already in Civ2, and it is a crying shame they didn't have it in Civ3!

Yea, in Civ2, one just had to bump his ally's city to be healed. But, in SMAC, one could enter the city and open it up as if it was his own. Very nice.

What happens if you have units sharing tiles with an Ally and you suddenly go to war with them? Do the units fight it out right there or what? What happens in SMAC if your units are in an allied city, and the alliance is broken, or turns to war? I've been curious about that since I also like the idea of such close cooperation with an ally.

Maybe they could be "teleported" to a friendly territory or out of the city/squeare in question.

I think I could go with Eddy here, but I have also another suggestion. We could actually take it to its logical conclusion. It could also mean exactly what it would in real life: the units within the city would turn hostile. Now if I have three musketmen and two knights in Paris with MPP, and then I decided to start a war, I could actually attack the units in the city. Talking about a sneak attack! This would make it very necessary to keep an eye on your allies. This sort of attacks would of course cause severe penalties in relations to other countries. I could also avoid those penalties by retreating from the city.

The one who breaks the alliance would get a surprise. I see no reason to prohibit this - its no different from ROP-abuse. But this is just a radical suggestion. It would be easier and safer to simply make the units magically teleport...

if you think you ally is moving troops to cities were your one-hp-left units are, take your units out of there.

Well, unless the radio has been invented the units inside the allies city will just not know that war has broken out. An ideal chance for the allies who allready know what happened to surprise the 'visiting' unit.

If strength of the visitors is too high, they escape and will be placed at a random square next to the city. If the visiting unit(s) has lower strength then the cities unit(s) they get captured and disappear from the map completely.

This would make breaking an MPP useless for that matter and adds the extra risk of using the benefit of the allied city.

This is not directly related to the topic but I couldn't find anywhere else to say it:
In order to prevent the situation when 1 civ gets right of passage with another just to move its troops near enemy cities and declare war(which I constantlydo
