Isn't it Bolshevism? Anyways, great splash.

Good idea for a govt. Never thought of splitting socialism in civ3. Bolshevists were originally sort of extreme leftists who in practice believed to centralized governing as a mean of rule and revolution as a mean to achieve the power, and who despised anything democratic. Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin were all bolsheviks.

I have a fur hat just like that from the old Soviet Carelia. Paid 10 Finnish marks (1.5 euros) of it, to some kid who had a bagfull of them. Sometimes use it during the wintertime, without insignia though. :)

i havnt seen anyone mention this idea before so i just thought id mention it.

I think that the governments in civ are a bit constrictive, your either communist or democratic, leftist democracy etc. just doesnt exist. or conservatism.

so i was thinking maybe of a left right slider, that you wouldnt need to have a revolution to change. This would represent for example different parties being voted in to a democracy, or different views of dictators etc.

Left would give you maybe less corruption say.
and right more commerce and faster workers.

Soudn't it be Bolshevikism. Good idea on Socialism as a government adds a third government later in game since Monarchy and republic kind of become obsolete

im pretty sure it bolshevism. actually, ill go check.
damn it, its not got it in my book so far.
woudnt it be better to call it something not relating to a particular party. Like fascism is better than a nazi government.

i cant think of anything to call it though. surely bolshevism (sp) would be communism and then create another far left govt.

Yes it would be better not to name it after the Bolshevik party. Wasn't it Lenins idea to have Socialism over Communism. When he died in 1924 He was still buiding the system. When Stalin came into power in 1927 he created his own way of doing things. Many Historians think he was not doing the what Lenin had origanilly set out to do. This was called Stalinism. But then all of this started from Marxism.

Sure is a lot of "isms":crazyeye:

started from marxism but not really related at all. due to the fact that both lenin and stalin (and most of the others after that) were a) dictators and b) although comrades not treated equally.

however on the bolshevism thing, communism was the party name after they took power and then it stuck for all far left partys.

lenin wasnt an official dictator, but all the soviets (i.e. small local councils) were led by people loyal to him because he had put them there, so whenever he wanted to make a change they all voted for him and he one.

Trotsky was lenins right hand man. He organised the revolution and following civil war.

NEP is a perfect example of the left right sliders i mentioned before.
NEP was a slightly less extreme left version of comunism yet there wasnt a revolution to bring this change, merely the leaders thought it was necasary.
