444nes2: The No Pressure NES 2

This is a NES starting in 1000 BC, in the iron age. I like story NESes, and people who were in my NES before liked my NES, which went well over 1000 posts. This is not to brag, just to attract new players.

Yep, that’s right. It’s time for another NES for me, and since No-Pressure was such a success, I thought why not try it again? For those not in my last one (I can’t imagine who) here is what no pressure means.

-No constant nagging for orders

-No punishment for no orders

I think this creates a much better NESing environment, with a feel good game.

Now, the rules.

In ancient days, before men could lay down their words in writing, there lived two brothers, Romulus and Remus. These brothers were twins, identical sons of parents deceased longer than the boys could remember. The death of the boys' mother in childbirth, and her husband shortly thereafter, left the twins stranded alone, in the forest, without hope of survival.

It was in this state that the children were happened upon by a farmer and his young wife. The wife, while very beautiful, was barren, and could never bore her husband any sons. Every night since their marriage the two had prayed the gods for help, to restore her womanly ferility and bring them a child. As such, it seemed the prayers of this simple Latin family had been answered when the twins were discovered, alone, in the forest.

The family took the boys home, and raised them as their own. It was the simple Latin farmer who bestowed upon them their names, Romulus and Remus, and, unbeknownst to himself, had bestowed upon the world a name that would never be forgotten: Rome.

When the boys turned 16, they were said to have come of age, and were sent out into the world by their adoptive father to make their own livelihoods. It was assumed by all that the boys would start their own farms, and live simply as their father and forefathers had. However, Romulus and Remus had a different plan for their lives.

One night, in a dream, the god Jupiter had come to Remus and inspired him with the idea of a great undertaking. He had shown Remus a great village, larger than even the greatest grazing field, with shimmering marble buildings lining stone-paved streets. Remus had become obsessed with the image, and had convinced his brother to help him. Together, they traveled the countryside, until they found the patch of land that Remus had seen in his dream. The land consisted of seven hills along the River Tiber. Here they began the construction of a new city.

For many days and nights the brothers toiled, using pick and shovel to excavate the earth, and hammer and nail to erect simple buildings. After much work, the village seemed ready for occupation, though no-one but the brothers lived there.

After this first phase of construction had been complete for some time, the town was yet unoccupied, save for the twins. Romulus was losnig faith; he wanted to give up and go back to living as a farmer, like the other Latins. But Remus was determined; so determined, in fact, that when Romulus threatened to leave, Remus beat him to death with a shovel.

Remus was terribly stricken by what he had done. He set about working on the city, alone, to get his mind off the crime. Fe worked for years, until he was near death himself. The strenuous construction had exhausted him, and as he lay down to die, he did one last act of repentence. He ordered to the air that the city he had built should always be called Rome, after the brother who had murdered in such a rage during its construction.

Ironically, it was not until Remus's death that people begin to flock to Rome. Hundreds, then thousands, of people moved to live in the great city. From this great many people, a King was chosen to rule. The first King was fair and just, and ruled well. But later Kings would oppress the people, and impose harsh martial rule.

From Rome, the Latin kingdom grew, spreading across Italia. The people grew increasingly unhappy under the rule of the Kings, and one day, rose up in revolt. In Rome, hundreds of peasants took up arms and stormed the palace, killing the King and ending the Monarchy. The peasants chose a council of 12 noblemen, from 12 noble families, to rule. This new government spread out from Rome, to encompass much of the dead Latin kingdom. This land would not be called Latinia, as the desposed monarch had called his land. It would be named for the city, Rome. Under the Patrician Council, Rome would expand to dominate all the former Latin lands.

Orders:
-Grow army.
-Expand in all directions with entire army, concentrating on moving north.

The Khazars - a group of Turko-Mongolic peoples - were amongst the very first of the many migrations from Mongolia towards Europe. They have, since apparently 1500 BC, migrated westwards, and finally settled in the region of Volga known as the Caspian Lowlands, where the great river of Volga enters the Caspian Sea.

The Khazars have built their first capital, Artil' (OOC: not real), on the very spot where Volga enters the Caspian Sea, in 1000 BC. They begun to switch to agricultural way of life, though warriors remained important for them.

Soon after the founding of Artil', the Khazars have also developed a government based on the power of the Kegan - Daraktil. Before that the ruler was the strongest warrior, but Daraktil founded the Aseni dynasty, starting a glorious period in Khazar history - the Khazarian Keganate.

Orders:
- Grow economy.
- Start expanding across Volga with military, though try to negotiate with the locals for them to join us peacefully. If negotiations fail, attack them.
