*** GAME COMPLETED ***

A beautiful (all the more because a little sneaky) victory by Portuga for France after 91 turns.

*** Special rules ***

Hi, this is the thread for the new PBEM game I plan on starting (tell me if it is one too many ).

It is for Conquests, using the MP version of the Age of Discovery scenario (with some modifications) and the patch 1.22.
So you need to have both Conquests and the patch 1.22 installed on your computer.

Civs will be attributed randomly for the 5 European powers. The natives will be played by AI except if someone volunteers to play them (I hope).

Civs :

Dutch
England
France
Portugal
Spain
---------
Aztecs -
Incas -
Iroquois -

Players : 5 (or more if humans want to play natives (I hope)).

1. Loulong - Spain
2. Dogboy - England
3. EliitMees - Portugal
4. DeceasedHorse - Dutch
5. Portuga - France
---
6. Aztecs - RJ
7. Incas - AI
8. Iroquois - AI

*** Special Rules ***
Special rules : this PBEM will have the following rules so by choosing to be part of it, you promise to abide by them.

- Europe : no war can be raged on the European territory. If you are at war with another power, you must keep your fight in the colonies, no land battle allowed in Europe (naval battles are of course authorized around Europe, including Gibraltar).
- Religion : If a country research protestantism while another chooses the counter-reformation then these countries should declare war on one another (whether you actually fight is another issue but no trade, no agreement anyway).
- Modifs : Iroquois replace Mayas, the Aztecs have a second city where the Maya capital is. All natives civs will be beefed up (settlers, troops, level) and more agressive.
- Map Trading : disabling Map trading completely to give a stronger feeling of "discovery".
- Natives and Techs : forbid tech-trading with Natives, at least from a certain tech and up (before gunpowder for instance or even earlier)
- Treasure (relics graphics) : add some trasure units (cities of Cebola for those who played Colonization) so that an efficient (and quick) exploration should be fruitful.

The Age of Discovery is a great would be scenario played poorly by the AI. With human players and these special rules, I hope we can have an entertaining adventure. If you think of other rules that would enhance game play feel free to mention them. The same if you disagree.

I had maybe the idea of getting a player of each nation fighting for his own nation (ie Portuga for Portugal or me for France) but I don't think it will be possible.

That is the last PBEM I set up (at least for a long while)... :D

You want to be in ? You have further questions ? Post in this thread or send me a PM. If ready to join, send me a PM with your e-mail.

Organization : the game will be called Age of Discovery (AoD) to be recognizable and when you get the game, send a mail to inform the sender you got it.

Hi guys. Welcome, not that I don't know some of you (EliitMees :p ), but I just want to make sure you have seen the special rules...

Yep, I read the rules and I agree with them. I always thought there should be no war in Europe as this isn't a goal for the era, as much as it was to rape the new world of its resources. Declaring war on a rival because of religion is a unique concept. I will abide by that and it should be very interesting.

I would count those as Europe. Since we start the game with those, they should be off limits in my opinion. True, it gives the Portuguese an advantage, but that also makes Portugal a target!

Yes, I agree. Portugal has the advantage of being closer but it has few cities and I think these should be considered as Europe, except maybe for Cap Verde islands maybe ?

BTW sorry to add that but I would like to add some rules :

- disabling Map trading completely to give a stronger feeling of "discovery".
- forbid tech-trading with Natives, at least from a certain tech and up (before gunpowder for instance or even earlier)
- add some trasure units (cities of Cebola for those who played Colonization) so that an efficient (and quick) exploration should be fruitful.

Oh, hell. I can't resist. Sign me up too. I wouldn't mind trying to be a native Civ. If I am, can I get around the tech trading rule somehow? Also if...I would rather not be the Iros, as they usually get slaughtered. Is the default Barb level also going to stay the same? (Chance for more worker sacrifices)

The treasures sound like a great idea! Just don't make them too powerful as (in my opinion), Portugal would really dominate. I loved playing Colonization. I'm still hoping for Firaxis to remake that game somehow and put a lot of new features into it. Would also be fun if they made it multiplayer somehow.

@ Rubberjello : since you choose a native Civ, you can pick up the one you want. We will have to finetune the tech exchange issue.

@ Dogboy : I plan to make them worth as much as the other treasures. So I don't think it is that much, especially that barbarians or natives might find them before Europeans. Main difference they come in much earlier than the other ones, allowing for a initial advantage. Nice to see I am not the only old man who played Colonization (as well as DIplomcay) around here :)

@ Deceased Horse : sure, provided you accept the rules and can be contacted easily. BTW I need you to send me your e-mail by PM.

@ Rubberjello : what tribe (sorry, civ) do you want ? Maybe you could get two if they are apart from one another (Iroquois + Incas for instance).

@ Portuga : welcome in. Now I am sure you would like to play Portugal. I am just not sure of your reasons :D

@ Deceased Horse : you'd better send me your email or post in this thread...

@ all the others out there (where the truth might be...) : you can still volunteer for a native civ  or as replacement.

OK, we are set.
Civs attributed, waiting for RJ to confim which native tribe.

We need to agree on the level of techs that can be exchanged with the natives. State your opinions.
Then I will edit the scenario and send it to someone to add the treasures (no reason I should know where they are :D ).

I would say we can trade techs only in the classic age with the natives. The natives never made it to the middle ages and probably shouldn't do it in this game by trading techs. Just my opinion.

So we will limit tech-trade with natives so that they cannot go higher than ancient age. Besides they should not get the horse-related techs. But they will be beefed up (3 more units + 1 extra settler) and all three will be played by humans which should make things more challenging.

The game will start on sunday night because it needs some editing so the game will start quietly when EliitMees is back.

Order of play :

Spain - Loulong
Portugal - EliitMees
France - Portuga
England - Dogboy
Dutch - DeceasedHorse
Iroquois - Ironduck
Incas - Ironduck
Aztecs - Rubberjello (be careful the Aztecs will start with both Aztec and Maya cities)

If you disagree with something, please say so quickly !
