Just deleted the folder where I had all my civ files (my friend did it actually). Anyways, when I go to try and reinstall the program, the cd acts like the program is still on my computer. How do I fix this?

Did you try going to the control panel -> add/remove programs -> uninstall Civ3(or PTW, or C3C). Then try to do a complete reinstall.

Alternately, when you put the disc in, I believe one of the options will be install/uninstall (as appropriate). Try the uninstall from there, then try to reinstall.

Maybe a stupid question, but you did check your recycle bin, right?

Another stupid question: Why did you let your friend anywhere near your civ files?!?! They are far too valuable to be trifled with!

In the future, the tech support forum may be a better place for this type of question.

well, according to him, he was trying to uninstall it to put porn on my computer.

he tried uninstall from control panel. it didn't work. he then tried it from the start menu. didn't work. then tried it with cd. didn't work.

I seem to remember a program in my computer that holds some type of data on it. named registry or something and i have to access it through the 'run' command.

anybody have other ideas? i need my fix

I had the same problem recently as you. Go to this link and do exactly what is says.

You're very welcome. Same thing happened to me (without the porn part) and I had a fit!

First, punch your friend for screwing with your computer. Second, do what homeyg said. Third, punch your friend again. Fourth, buy a new computer because if he had to delete something to make more room, you have too little hard drive space. Fifth, get a new friend that won't mess with your stuff without your permission.

Oh yeah, never ever, ever, ever, ever, mess with REGEDIT unless it was a dire situation like this. Messing with it can virtually ruin your computer. Just a reminder...

wow- i always wondered how i could manually uninstall those annoying residual files after i deleted the conquests folder or whatever during a re-install...
thanks for the link, homeyg :)

Just asking... the instructions on that page are made for Conquests, but can you do the same thing but with the normal Civ folder instead? I'm asking because I don't have conquests, just vanilla civ, but need to do what is described on that page.

The instructions say:
For each key under Uninstall (they will be a series of numbers), click the key and look at the Display Name listed in the left window.
When you find one that has Civilization III Conqusts in it, make sure it is highlighted and hit delete on your keyboard to delete it.

When it says "it" are the instructions referring to the key (or series of numbers) or are the instructions referring to the display name only? I think it is the key but I don't want to take chances.
