1390 AD, turn 200 or 199 maybe.

Ok fixing to be quite a mess at Mycenia. Epsilon can win but at what cost? I don't know what they expect from this war except to kill time until they launch a space ship. If so that’s quite a big mistake. I notice Epsilon and Piffle have not traded their most recent techs, perhaps to prevent us from getting the research advantage.

I think we should send a cavalry expedition to aid Loco. Problem is galley travel is pretty useless now. Port Tropicana finishes a galleon in 4 turns or so if you all agree we'll just wait and travel in style. We'll have to cancel the silk/whale deal so I asked Aloha for their extra fur.

I just saved the scientist this turn. We can get another GP in 15 turns or so for a golden age or we can use the scientist.

Looking things over I've discovered some empire management tweaks. Ploughland should be our capitol; bureaucracy will be much more useful there. A new palace will take 8 turns and Oxford will take 9 if Loco lends us their stone. (They don't have it yet but soon.)

Oxford requires another university. It will take 7 turns to get a library and Uni in Chowder so I went for it.

We'll settle Iron city in 2 turns and have Iron in 5 or so.

So:
  • should we send troops to Loco?
  • should we declare war on Epsilon?
  • should we save the scientist or use him?
  • should we move the capitol?

I attached the save this time. If thats easier for everyone I can continue to do so.

Edit: Sorry, too big.

should we send troops to Loco?

What about landing 1/2 galleons worth of cavalry, catapults and rifles next to Dune or the other coastal city Epsilon has? I don't see much of a point in defending inside Loco's land, but a counterattack is certainly interesting.

should we declare war on Epsilon?
We should only when we feel we can actually start hurting them.

should we save the scientist or use him?
I think we should save him until Aloha gets Scientific Method, and then use him on Physics.

should we move the capitol?
Sure, if it's beneficial.

By the way, don't we have another city that can build a library-university relatively quickly? I'd like Chowderton to pump out some Epsilon bashing units.

Hmm, counterattacking Dune is a cool idea If we can make it past their fleet. We'll have to try and work that out.

Port Tropicana could build a uni in 10 I think but its about to finish a galleon that I really wanted and I figure Chowder could take a short break from muskets. When the uni is finished we'll have the option for rifles, grenadiers and frigates.

I think we need a feint to make their fleet move out of our trajectory, then we counter their city. I am all for the proposed counterattack.

1400 AD, turn 200

Settler on his way to Iron, Magadan starts barracks.
Weaverville finishes lighthouse starts settler.
Scientist is camping out.

The two galleons are heading north from Dune. They are probably going to Sunrise to pick up more troops. Spotted another galleon up north heading south, maybe. Epsilon also has two caravels off shore outside our borders.

Our galley would take too long to get anybody to Loco so we’ll wait for our own galleon (5 turns) extra troops are on the way. I’ll upgrade our galley when I get a chance and may be able to build another in time. That means we can have 6-9 troops ready for a mission in 5 turns. Considering an attack on Dune, or maybe Sunrise.

We’ve got a good look at the fighting in Mycenia. Loco sent their cats out but doesn’t look like they did much.

I’ll switch to military unit production as current builds finish. Right now we are working on 2 cav, a caravel and a galleon.

Since we are heading to war should we change civics? We can change for free of course, but we do have to wait 5 turns between changes.

Vassalage is a must, possibly also Theocracy if we do not have much builds to do (organized religion is nice to have if we have builds)

Definitively vassalage.

1410 AD, turn 201

Loco sent Chemistry, we finished Rifling and started Steal.

Upgraded our galley to galleon, but Epsilon is keeping a close eye on us. A frigate has joined the caravel patrol.

Piffle asked us to send our only silk for their extra wine. I did not accept and can see now that two cavalry are shadowing our camel archer.

Founded the Iron city, but need four more turns to connect the resource.

Loco sent Chemistry, we finished Rifling and started Steal.

Loco mentioned something about one of our galleys being lost, what's up with that?

1420 AD, Turn 202

The war in Loco is disrupting our resource deals. Sickness in 4 cities but I made some trdae sthat should patch most of it up.

It's unfortunate that Piffle won't do anything against Epsilon, but they'll get kicked to the curb sooner or later. Rather than Innovia comming out of the closet just yet maybe we should play the waiting game with Piffle.

Besides I really can't see us sailing an invasion to Dune or anything considering how much trouble Loco was able to give us. Instead I was thinking we would continue to build. Keep trying to get what we can from the tech alliance and sailing our galleon the back way to Northern Locoland where we would just gift them units to do with as they please.

What do you think?

I don't really see us having many options other than waiting as you suggest. Without Piffle's help our attack will just weaken Epsilon slightly while ruining our own chances, and that is exactly what Piffle hopes for. Staying officially passive but helping Loco with units seems like the only sound strategy at the moment.

1430 AD, turn 203.

Finished Granary in South’n Comfort started Lighthouse.

On the one hand Sunrise Citadel is garrisoned only by a catapult; on the other hand the seas are heavily patrolled by Epsilonian frigates. We could never attack them under these so why should Piffle be their only friend? We should look for a tech trade or something. We get scientific method from Aloha in 5 turns or so, but maybe we can try for the others.

Remember the bad old days of our pathetic economy, we’ll we’re number two now, Piffle and Epsilon have put a lot of effort into their war mongering.

Pictures later.

Here are the promised pics.

Somewhat depressing that Aloha is still so much above us in power despite having lost so much...

But it actually seems that Piffle is coming out as the leader as their GNP hasn't suffered while Epsilon's is about halved. I wonder if Epsilon is suffering bad WW or if they've begun emplying a lot of specialists or something third...

As for Aloha's power: We are equal in techs so they have more troops while we have more people. Population is worth about 500 soldiers per point while even a single warrior is worth 1000.

As for WW: Piffle razed all the cities they captured while Epsilon kept Mycenian. Not sure how many troops died taking it but keeping captured cities builds up WW fast. Still it seams kind of early for them to be bothered by WW. I think going to war with anybody was a big mistake for them considering all the advanteges they had.

I think gifting units to Loco is the way to go. We got no WW, Loco drains the other ones and we manage to gradually position ourselves. We rather plan a special expedition breaking down a few selected targets with wonders and all. A surprise naval invasion several 100 years ahead.

Just spotted an Epsilonian Galleon in the middle of the ocean. Probably just headed south but I made sure Chowderton is well defended anyway.

Our own Galleon is finished, full of Cavalry and about to drop them off in Bombay. May they rest in peace.

The longer this situation holds the better, we are back in second place and gaining on first.

1450 AD, turn 205.

Epsilon captured another Loco city and with at least 2 more galleons full of Rifles will soon take a third. None the less we have gifted them 3 cavalry.

We are done with the galley exploring the south, so the crew obediently constructed an iglo on a nearby ice flow and pulled the cork. Thousands of miles away in the ministry of Defence a 1 gold per turn credit is discovered by the acounting division.

Our camel is nearly done exploring Piffle as well. Should we do anything with him?

Started a grenadeir and will soon have Iron, Steel and Sci Method. Steam power next, which is on the way to infantry.

1460, turn 206.

Turning over those three cavalry took a suprisingly large bite out of our troop strength. As cities finish their current projects I'll start troop builds. Looks like Epsilon has lots of Riffles and we have only 1 grenadeir right now.

We'll also make Ironclads for the south when we get Steel in 3 and Iron shortly after that.

Piffle is slowly falling further and further behind and Epsilon still hasn't traded Scientific Method to them. Could Epsilon be done with them?

We are done with our camel who has been on a tour of Piffle's border. I don't know what to do with him now, any ideas?

1470 AD, turn 207

Iron will be connected next turn.

We'll finish Steel and Aloha will send Scientific Method. I forgot what Loco is researching but What is our next project?

Couple pics: What do we do with our Camel Archer? And Loco is falling fast.
