is there a guide on this?

I hate lack of info...... +20% collateral damage
WTH. how usefull this info is, when I have no idea how is it calculated.
is that number of units hit? damage? both?

will eventually 500 catapults wear down 10 mechanised infantry?

will 1 catapult cause the same collateral damage to to a stack of infantry, as 1 artillery would?
or is collaterall damage calculated based on strength as well?

There is a war academy article on combat which explains how seige works. Basically, each type of seige has a max damage it can do via collateral damage (I think ti's 50% from a cat to 80% for artillery, but those numbers off the top of my head), so in answer to your question, no. 500 cats will bring 10 mech infantry to 50% health, and no lower.

I would say that no, there really isn't a guide for siege. You should write one.

Most of the information you need is scattered throughout the forum.

It's a modifier to the strength values that are used to calculate the amount of collateral damage inflicted. A 5 STR with +20% collateral damage works like a 6 STR unit.

No - artillery have higher base strength, so the calculation is different.

well thanks for the links.
I wanted to know how collateral damage is calculated. I didn't find it in any of these threads.
these threads just discuss how CR is superior to B, and how it is best to bring lot's of siege.

But what I wanted to know is how collateral damage is calculated. So I can imagine IE. the priority of going from cannons to artillery.

since right now, just keeping my old cannons and beelining other techs and saving hammers and upgrade gold seems to be the better choice

There are at least two threads in that stack that include a collateral damage calculator.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that how many hp's a siege unit has is immaterial to how much collateral damage it can do.
