Oho!! What a great normalizer. OBVIOUSLY it's optimal to SETTLE IN PLACE!

SETTLE IN PLACE!!!

:P

What about settling on the gold? ~~
Iam sure Grashopa loved making it the perfect settle spot, and added the gold as brainfood..."should i or not..."

I didn't touch the starts and just took the first two. I want to see how often Praets are doable / a good idea for random starts. Clearly I would settle on the gold because we all know food is more important for deity starts :)

hmm can someone make something out of this? I was thinking that settling 1W is 'obvious' and right now not sure... and why in the hell so many people suggest settling on gold? is there some hidden irony or something? I don't see this.

someone a little while ago posted about his marathon huge game where he won with a really high score and opened by saying that he regenerated the map until he got a riverside plains hill gold to settle on, and at least a second luxury resource in the BFC.

there it is. He's playing HoF-style for a high score via Quechua rush which I suppose he's entitled to do, but idunno, it just seems extremely meh to me (and others apparently) to cheese so hard. 'Winning' is obviously not a challenge with the kind of starts needed for a super-high score.

Not sure you'll have time for AH, so maybe 1S as that gives more forests than 1W? Ideally should be settling on first turn as every turn will count - gotta get those praets out ASAP.

Tech order: Agriculture, BW, IW (thanks to two nearby gold mines), AH, Writing, Aesthetics.

The hill distribution was almost perfect, so I skipped granaries for a while.

Settled on the plains hill in the south for more production, REX to 4 cities. I had enough food, so there was no need to SIP.

Due to their longevity, praets are definitely an option for HOF. Once again, you need the right map. Like this one!

It helped that the Frenchies didn't have Bronze or Iron. Ok, so this map is not completely representative. I think I lost maybe 4 praets. Someone else should do HAs and compare. Early scouting with warriors was important. The options were either Khmer or France, and I looked at Khmer, and I was like, "no."

@MG
nice finally some save ;-). To be honest i don't consider this 'already won' and I think you should play it out a bit further.

Spoiler :
As I see it you start to fall a bit behind, even if getting math from the war would be OK, but other 2 Ai's start to run away a bit...

and honestly why Literature? it's very weak trade bait, you're late to it and have no marble.

I would like to see how you will wrap this... let's say post 1 AD save

There actually can be a huge difference from how people war, how they recover and how they finish even if several people were to go for Praets. I'm going to try to finish these games off just to give a time to compare to.
