98 turns untill Independence , what does it mean?

Hello i am playing the game of Colonization , and i get a message 98 turns untill independence.
As far as i know , you declare independence by your own.
Is there a time limit ?
How can i avoid it ?
I will not be yet ready , what happens at the game with this message or in 98 turns?

It depends on these choices:

1. If you play Vanilla or one of the big mods (e.g. TAC, RaR, WTP)
2. If you have selected "Custom Game" or "Play Now".
3. Which "Victory Contidion" you have selected.

So yes, normal games in Vanilla have a time limit of 300 turns.
But if you chose this path you can deactivate it and play and endless game.
(That will just be ended by winning WOI.)

1. Do not play Vanilla but one of the big mods named above.

TAC is a good choice for beginners.

• Carefully selected additions (not too many new features)
• Lots of attention to detail (great quality of new graphics, sounds, texts, ...)
• Very atmospheric and still "authentic" to the original spirit of Colonization.

After you feel comfortable with TAC, maybe check WTP.
(The forum should write enough about those mods so you can inform yourself.)

2. Definitely start by "Custom Game", not "Play Now".

3. In the Game Options there is a section "Victory Conditions".
Take care you deactivate all other Victory Options except "Independence".

Voila, you got your endless game
(That will just be ended by winning WOI and otherwise continue forever.)

I want to thank you for this info. I started the game again from start , I am hooked.
Now i need to know what happens when the king taxes you to death ?
I am all the time out of money .
i Buy Sugar for 7 $ and sell rum for 10 with 26 % tax.
I suppose i have to stop selling Items to Europe till they rise , and start selling to natives in low prices and buy Items like sugar,e.t.c.
If i buy 7$ Sugar, and sell 10 Rum with tax 26 % and it get rising then you wont make any money
There must be a tactic.
I see natives not selling all the ingredients i need , no one sells sugar,cotton , others sell but with low quantity.

There must be a tactic.

Very little strategy in simple economy system of Vanilla.
More advanced strategy already in improved ecomony system of TAC.
Very complex strategy in later deeply enhanced economy system of WTP. (Based on RaR, which itself is based on TAC.)

Basically all that Vanilla does:

• It will slowly but constantly increase your taxes triggered by your sales until you are forced to end the game by War of Independence.
• There is much less complexity in there than you might expect. The game logic is basically still the one from Original Colonization of 1994.
• Vanilla is just a poor rebuild of the Original Game of the 90's and had even removed nice features (like "Learning by Doing" or Terrain "Savannah" or some Forrest Types or ...).

Again, I would heavily suggest to try one of the big mods.
Playing Vanilla is really just a waste of time compared to what the mods offer.
(At least TAC, if you still want to stay close to Vanilla. Later check out its grand child WTP.)

WTP is a MOD ?

It is the biggest mod for Civ4Col ever created.
It is also the only one that is really still active.

TAC (until 2012) -- followed by --> RaR (until 2018) -- followed by --> WTP (still active)

WTP is the child of RaR.
RaR is the child of TAC.

Modders like myself have been and are still members of all those projects.

• Member of TAC (Grandmother)
  
• Founder of RaR (Mother)
  
• Member now of WTP (Child)

Hello , i followed your tips and started playing WOT , which is indeed something DIfferent .
I can't find how to build a COllony , I see that pioneers dont build colonies any more , i created on stat 1 , but can't find how to build .
Which unit builds a Collony ;
