British long bow into machine gunners.

Have you guys tried this yet? These long bow/ranged machine gunners are killer. I would say even better than the Impi or Keshek. All you need are like 2 infantry in front of your long/gunners and they wipe the floor with everything. This upgrade is simply amazing.

Yes, they are deadly. Always make sure to have a ton of those longboes ready to upgrade as you hit Industrial.
