I'm in the intermission of the London concert now and I've heard the song, I really liked it. It has a great sense of adventure. Tin got so carried away conducting it that his baton flew out of his hand! The Baba Yetu performance was good too.

And no I didn't record it or know when it'll be released publicly :crazyeye:

Very cool! Can't wait to hear it. So I take from your humble opinion that the new theme is Civ worthy?

Tell us all about it! As of now you're our only inside source :)

Cool. Thanks for the update. It's a choral piece, right? Was there any instrumentation?

Cool, can someone record it?

Yes definitely a choral piece. They played a number of other songs including the entirety of The Drop That Contained The Sea and I'd say the song it sounded most similar to is Come Tomorrow. http://youtu.be/nv5S-itt2a0

The thing I liked about Baba Yetu in Civ 4 was it felt very global, and while the new one does nothing to assuage my fears of euro-centricity in Civ 6, I would say its very rowsing and lively, much better than the awful droning Terra Nova in Civ 5. If you are a fan of Christopher Tin you won't be disappointed :)

"Iza Ngomso" is my favorite piece from The Drop that Contained the Sea, so that's good to know. Anything would be better than having to hear "Terra Nova" again. :cringe:

Sounds like the theme will fit well with the art direction. :goodjob: Christopher Tin did a great job of humanizing the series with Baba Yetu.

Yes that's a good way of putting it, Baba Yetu felt very human, and I don't think Sogno di Volare has that same human feel, it's a bit more of the choir-in-a-cathedral or film-soundtrack feel, but I definitely liked it :)

Damn, that just makes me want to redownload Civ 4

User Annakajima on /r/civ went and saw the performance last night and had this to say about it:

We went and saw it last night, first off if you ever get a chance to see Angel City Chorale I cannot get over how stunning their sound was. It was such a full and complete choir and Baba Yetu made me cry (but then again I cry at a lot of music)
Sogno di Volare was the second piece to play that evening, apologies that I can't be more specific overall, we did hear it once and I'll try and give you my best impressions. I am not a pro at music, my partner and I have been listening to Video Game Classical music for only 4/5 years and Classical for about 2.

I felt there was this great sense of momentum to the piece, keeping in mind the lyrics are based on flight, I felt it was about that run up, going fast as you can and then leaping forward into the air and flying, kind of like in a dream. There was this joy and happiness to the music, I'm trying to think of pieces it reminded me of, I could be wrong but when trying to recall how it sounded it makes me think of Skyrims dragonsong theme except not so harsh/blunt in the delivery of the lyrics, much softer and fluid (I'm really wary of writing that since I'll likely be wrong once you hear it)

The orchestra was smaller than I anticipated, I've been used to larger ones for Distant Worlds and Final Symphony but it felt actually much better that way. The orchestra were not the focus, the choir was and their sound which again was overwhelming and stunning.

The pace was different from Baba Yetu as well (obviously), it felt more energetic and bouncy (maybe I'm thinking that because the choir were bobbing along). There were no soloist for this piece either but you didn't miss it, everyone was joined together and it was really fun.

The whole concert was utterly utterly wonderful and I feel very spoiled on the music, it was filmed as well so hopefully soon the piece will be shown. I hope this helped a little bit, I can't wait to play the game.
So yes, I've rabbled on a bit too much, I loved it and the whole evening. It was fun hearing the hall attendees saying "This is such a younger crowd than we're used to" and the amazing lady who sat next to me wanted to understand all about Civ and play it immediately since she had never heard it before and said "That [Baba Yetu] could be in a movie, all his pieces could, doesn't matter that it's a video game or Pokemon (bless) it was wonderful. Can I play it on my Mac?"

At first comparing it to "Dragonborn" was almost enough to kill my enthusiasm, since that may be the only video game theme I hate more than "Terra Nova." :p Fortunately, he explained it away. ;)

if the trailor score is any indication, then the theme score for Civ VI should be epic to say the least.
Fitting for such a remarkable series that has stood the test of time. One more turn
