CIV1 Map Editor

Have you tried CIV$? It's probably the best interactive reference for Civ data structures.

Does anyone have the Excel file mentioned in this thread that they could post or send to me?

For fun, I've been contemplating how to program a clone of CIV1. I haven't be able to figure out the format of the MAP files. The VB code in this Excel file should be enough to figure that out.

If I did write a clone, I'd revamp the way the save game files are formatted but it would be nice to be able to import Original CIV game files.

Thanks for any replies.

Paul

Note, I haven't actually written any code. I'm simply psuedo coding data structures, etc. and trying to reverse engineer portions of the original CIV (AI, Save file formats, MAP generation, etc.)

Reverse engineering CIV for writing a clone is a good idea, I think. Or maybe we could just ask for the source code?

Is this editor still available? Can't seem to find it... :(

I am also hoping someone has a copy of this. I used to, but I can't find it either. I think it would be a help in my own mapmakermaking endeavor in html5.

hello Gábor, fel tudod tölteni a map editorodat valahova?

if you are not Hungarian, sry... i just ask you to share your editor!

'm another one standing in the line for gaborka excel map editor. I think editing expert Dack should have it, but i don't know, whether is he still civ-active. I love excel and in combination with map editing and especially in civ1 it sounds simple fantastic.

I'd really appreciate a copy too.

Well,
...i had to go back through my databases, after all i did remember a disc of ~2005 -
i guess this is even the original zip i did download myself back in 2005 of the gaborka excel map editor file
As promised, here it goes.
You can download the version 1 from: h**p://***.geocities.com/civcrazy/civedrel1.zip
It is an Excel 2000 file (hopefully works on Excel 97 as well).
- you can see the zip is of June 24, 2004 - the civdrel1a.xls within the zip-file is 'from January 1, 1996'. :)

WARNING:
This excel file uses macros.

i never had a problem with this file while i still did use the win98se or the winxp OS back in 2005 -
but this is the internet and things may change with my upload to something:
your download to your PC - or whatever happens inbetween.
Additional i am linux user since years now -
so i do not see possible effects like in Microsoft Windows operating systems or things related -
so my hint is:
PLEASE - use only quality internet sites and sources
of your preferred virus and trojan scanners on whatever operating system you use.

...and yes, it even works with Excel '97,
it even opens in newest linux' newest OpenOffice 3.2 by Oracle...

I really hope one of the people who download this will be able to create something -
(maybe) a terraform editor, like Dack did create -
or (parts of) another CiV game or tool. ;)
