Gray stuff on map

I'm sure this has been asked before, but what's up with the weird gray stuff on the map when you load a save? does anyone else experience it?

I guess it's the graphics card needing some time to load all the tiles/textures/improvements? I do experience it, but after 20/30 seconds loading it's all gone.

Hmm. Its odd because I can c see the improvements and forests and jungles. Only the retain

Yeah it's the *wait I haven't loaded that bit yet* but once you move the map around and move it back it's *oh crap I thought you didn't need this bit anymore, wait let me load it again*
