Ahhh.... love the weekends, where I can fulfil my empire-building dreams...

The lowly Romans began near some hills and plains, and enjoyed a healthy start to grand dreams. Several rounds of expansion later, and after much exploring it became clear that the main landmass was one large donut-shaped pile of earth, with the Romans up north, Arabs to the south, English beyond them, the Greeks to the east and Mongols further away to the southeast. Brave Roman warriors provided this vital intelligence and also guarded strategic points on the wild frontier, stationing themselves on hills and forests and keeping a close eye on the barbarians beyond the border.

In their travails, Roman explorers visited friendly and not-so-friendly villages and one such encounter gifted Rome with a mighty galley which surveyed the inland sea. This proved disappointing as no exit to the oceans were found.

With time, the Roman Empire grew to a modest collection of six cities, all of whom had well-chosen sites for maximum growth, research and production. This proved to be crucial in the global contest to lead the world in these important areas, particularly for science and production, since catapult armies were able to arrive just in time to reinforce the border sentries and prevent Mongolian and English incursions. These enemies envied the shining glory of Rome and made repeated demands for bribes and "gifts", which Rome would not tolerate.

War was inevitable.

Mongolian armies marched towards Roman lands but were utterly decimated by Catapult defenses which were augmented by Archer fortifications. Thus was stability ensured on the eastern front.

The surprise appearance of English Knights caused much worry on the western front but these were steadily driven away thanks to stout defenders. The western frontier was then secured with ample defenses while plans were underway to pursue these lowly foes back to their squalid cities. To the relief of all, and especially the English, they sued for peace just when glorious Rome had amassed a mighty host to exact justice.

A spell of peace followed, which allowed the Roman Empire to further increase and consolidate its rightful place as leading world power, with mutiple breakthroughs in research, and the fielding of prototype steel warships and armour. This surely caused many sleepless nights in the hearts of our envious neighbours, which soon erupted in war with both the English, who were proving to unreliable partners in peace, and the Arabs, who had managed significant technological advances as well.

The famed 1st English Battlefleet held Roman forces at bay, which caused little progress on the western front.

There was far more progress in the south, where victorious Roman armour broke through Arab battle lines and devastated their pitiful defenses, which strove to hold off steel with wooden spears and lead bullets. This was greatly aided by the irresistable lure of Rome's glory, causing several Arab cities to instead pledge their allegience to Caesar instead. This pleased Rome immensely.

Tripoli soon fell under Rome's protection, and their dreams of space travel abruptly came crashing down around them. The crescent moon banner no longer flew over any city on the main continent as the Arabs were reduced to two pitiful offshort cities, one of which was also quickly absorbed into the greater Roman Empire. Sense prevailed and the Arabs sued for everlasting peace.

By this time, Caesar's starship had completed its sojourn to the promised land far away and Rome was finally able to claim victory over its remaining foe, the unpredictable and bloodthirst English who had by that time retreated to London, their one remaining city.

All hail Caesar!

PS Thanks for reading. It was heaps fun writing this up!
