You can also use a similar strategy with one of the lizardman civs in ashes of Erebus. Found RoK the race has a unique version of the temple of kilmorph that boosts trade route yield which is important for later. Also the gold from the religion will help with rapid expansion. What you want to do is expand along the coast as fast possible while teching to currency for their unique civic that gives food and hammers from trade routes once you move into this civic things start getting crazy new cities you found should build trade route boosting buildings asap as the trade network expands all of you cities get more and more food/hammers also your land slowly turns to jungle marsh with swamps on which give pretty good yields so you dont even have to build improvements of course if you do you get even better cities. It's worth it to build dwarven mines using the soldiers of kilmorph for the crazy yields that they give.
