LAN Game Question?

I noticed there is an option to create a LAN game. Does this restrict to only people in your same network? I want to create a game to play with my brother, but he lives in a different city than I do. Neither one of us can play multiplayer mode so the LAN game is our only bet. I don't see a connect to ip button or anything similar so is this possible between two different networks?

Do you guys own diffrent copies of games? You should just be able to use Internet for it. What exactly is preventing you from playing in "multiplayer mode"

(Btw, shouldn't the inablity to play multiplayer mode actually prevent youf rom playing via the Internet, Lan AND hotseat?)

We both torrented it. I plan on buying it because I always torrent games before I buy them to see if I like them, but I know he's not going to buy it.
