recruiting cuirassiers

Why is it as any civ i can't recruit cuirassiers? Once gun powder is researched it should allow me to recruit cuirassiers and musketmen right? Any help here?

Curs require Military Tradition + Gunpowder and horse and iron resources. Military Tradition is oft a desired Liberalism Tech for Cur conquests.

I know it should be obvious, but don't forget Horseback Riding!

The tech path for cavalry also changes in the beyond the sword expansion with this, where rifling becomes the next upgrade to the cuirassiers to cavalry.

Yes thanks all. I wish i could love Civ V as much as IV. Perhaps its a sign to jump to civ VI?

It's a sign to stay with IV.

What about knights? they seem a bit weird like Cuirassiers. Knights are horses, feudalism and perhaps iron?

It should be Guilds + Horseback Riding (techs) and Horse + Iron (resources), unless I'm mistaken. Check your tech tree to be safe.

(And my understanding is that this tech path is a bit off the normal route to Liberalism, which partly contributes to players skipping them and going straight from Horse Archers to Cuirassiers.)

Yes, VI leaves nothing to be desired. V is decent but IV is probably the best installation
