I have justed wasted the last 72 hours non-stop playing this amazing game :D. I highly suggest anybody to download this game at:

http://sc2.sourceforge.net/downloads.php

The game is a space exploration game. You control a mighty alien starship and a number of escort crafts. The starship must be expanded by adding modules. To support the startship you must gather minerals from surrounding star systems.

The ultimate goal is to free the Earth and the rest of the defeated Alliance of Free Stars from the mean Ur-Quan Masters and their helpers, before they decide to exterminate you. On your way trough the universe you will encounter a number of alien races, each being completely different and exciting. There are the extremely cowardly Spathi, who begin the day by praying to the gods: "..Oh God... please don't let me die today! Tomorrow would be so much better!"

Or the one-eyed VUX who think that each Earthling is that terrible that he has to be exterminated. However you will also encounter one specific VUX who thinks different then his breathen. His name is ZEX and he keeps a harem of alien creatures...

There are many other races like the beautifull Syreen

or the funny triple race Zoq-Fot-Pik

The most exciting part of the game is IMO the conversation with the various aliens. They will tell you about their culture and history. Some are funny, others are tragic and some are just distrubting.

While you many aliens are friendly to you, there are others who want to kill you and sacrify your body to their blood-thirsty gods. You will ahve to fight them and beat them in a vary arcade-like action fighting.

The game is a remake of a game and works perfectly on windows. The source code had been distributed by the developers and some clever freeware developers have taken care of it. The current version is absolutely fine and I don't quite understand why they don't call it 1.0 .. Yes, the grahpic is kinda old, but who cares?

Try it out, but don't blame me for wasting hours infront of your Pc. It is the "one-planet-more" virus PLUS the "one-dialouge-more" !!

This is, IMO, one of the greatest computer games of the 1990s. I've been a huge fan for years, and the new windows "Ur-Quan Masters" is great.

Anyway, the reason it's still 0.50 is that there's still a lot of the game that has yet to be converted. For example, the last version I played (may not be the current one anymore) still lacked the in game movies, some of the planetary landing details, some of the shipyard details, a LOT of the star map details, and HUGE chunks of conversation*. Not to mention a lot of the secrets, the hidden planet, and the cloaking device (fixed now?) have yet to be implanted.

*When the 3DO voices were made, a lot of the diologue was considered superflous, and cut. Amoung the cuts, though, (other than convos for each race), was very important information from the mushroom dudes (forget their name, near the Vux), an explaination of the time limit and a lot of historical backround by the Melnorme, and most of the Dynarri conversations. Since then The UQM project has been trying to get voice acting for those missing conversations, but, AFAIK, only 1 or 2 of the original actors has offered to do anything. (Which means the voices will probably be completely redone... a huge project)

I'm with you - this is one of the best games I have ever played on PC. Even today, it's still a decent game, which is saying something considering the graphics are ancient compared to things like Civ4.

The Mycons (mushroom guys) were such a pain in the butt. You could try all sorts of reasoning, flattery, bribing, anything, but I could never seem to get anything out of them besides a bunch of babbling about 'Zuffo-wup' followed by a fleet of their ships trying to blast me to pieces.

The thing I loved most about this game was the sheer diversity of all the different alien races in the game - there must have been about 25 of them, and they ranged from a universe-destroying equivalent to the Borg, to the Pkunk, these crazy birds with a rather unique outlook on life that you just have to experience yourself to understand them.

When I found the Ur_Quan masters a while back, I was so thrilled - I'm very thankful for the hard work put in by those guys!

The Spathi are, quite possibly, the most hilarious alien race ever. I dare anyone here to talk to Fwifo for more than five minutes without laughing.

I still waiting for them to finish. I want to see it complete, hope they do not go the way of Starfleet.

Impossible :D.

It is not opinion, it is FACT--this is simply one of the greatest ever. I had a good deal of fun with Star Control I, and grabbed SC2 the instant it hit the shelves.

Awesome space fight action, SWEET campaign game (my number one disappointment with the game was that I wanted more campaigns!), and very funny to boot. The Zoq-Fot-Pik have gotta be my favorite race, and not just for the chatting, either. Their ship is extremely nasty in deathmatches!

Other favorite thing about SC2: for once, the good guys get the biggest, baddest firepower in the game (you know which one I'm talkin' about!!!)
