Once, I tried Ethiopia -people crazy about them and wanted to try- unfortunately, Attila was my neighbor and he declared war, when my units far away from home. I did my best but he captured my only city.

Russia is my favorite Civ to play as so that Catherine isn't my (massive/unstoppable/runaway) opponent!

Top Five:
1. Russia
2. Aztecs
3. Spain
4. Mongolia
5. China

All these civs seem to be able to play any style and can adapt to pretty much any starting conditions. More importantly, they are all top-notch warmongers.

My new favorite has to be Venice, for super OCC style game play while still acquiring something like 8 cities by the late game plus double trade routes allowing me to swim in gold and usually have a complete monopoly on the world congress because all of the city states are either my ally or have been bought by me.

Before BNW, my favorite would have been the Netherlands. Super great tile improvement, amazing privateer replacement, and a unique ability that allows for a ridiculous amount of happiness.
