I don't think I explained myself well. My issue is that variance between games is like a knife edge of difficulty, either its a walk in the park or next to impossible. There isn't a happy middle ground I can find.
I'll try to explain. In civ4 winning comes down to a set pattern of choices...
As a long time civ4 deity player I finally got around to giving civ5 a real go. I've mainly played on pangaea and after 70 hours I have found this to definitely be the most luck heavy of any civ game in the series.
Mainly dependent on the personalities of the other leaders. I had a game where...
It has been a long time since I programmed AI but to me one of the issues with ciV is the 1upt causes blocks of units to develop which is actually the hardest thing for a computer to analyse. To beat chess computers people play in blocky patterns they wouldn't choose against a human.
These reasons are valid ones on why ciV cannot have a great AI they aren't really good reasons on why ciV has a terrible combat AI. Currently ranged units run in before melee units, none of those reasons are so limiting as to cause that sort of stupid AI behavior. The current AI is poor even...
Fischer random chess (chess960) is a lot more complicated than civ5, is random and by its nature cannot rely on databases. Yet it has AIs that are significantly better than a civ5 AI and they don't use bonuses. http://lichess.org is one you can play online for free (warning: you may come to the...
I still think civ1 is a unique entrant in the series with its own charm. In many ways I feel the gui was actually at its best and easiest to use in civ1. It was also far more challenging at the time as I had never played a civ game before. Frankly I would say it remains the most streamlined of...
and here I was thinking my opinion and criticisms of the game held a merit that was self evident due to me being a human being. Thank you stethnorun for teaching me that dissenting opinions are worthless and that the quality of a game should be taken as an article of faith.
You see I think of...
I can't much be bothered with ciV anymore either though I wouldn't of burned out on it so ast if I hadn't thought it would be a much better game.
Can't wait for civ6 I heard they are finally going to bring elves and dwarves into the main game.
Civrev was better then ciV for me as hard as that is to believe, SP in civrev sucked but at least it was an okay MP game. Especially considereding previous version of civ had been too lengthy for me to enjoy most MP setups so there was a novelty factor for me playing any civ on multiplayer...
If I want a game where trading is pointless and there is a lot of challenge I would go play starcraft. If all people want is challenge without much strategy that is where they would be.
I agree that the decisions in civ4 is different as it was a nature of when. Whereas civ5 is more of an if. That I agree on but in civ4 you were often trying to predict the future needs of that city and change your build order accordingly, that attempt at predicting future events in the game...
