If there was any confusion, it was Thormodr saying Civ V was "OK" just not his game, and that the vitriol against Jon was terrible and his theories one what/why. But I missed Thormodr's posts where on the other hand he was then kind of blaming Jon and saying the game was atrocious.
When it...
LOL no kidding! Throm are you schizophrenic? After my positive comment you went in a totally different direction than I expected. I think I need to retract my statement
I disagree with this. Red Dead Redemption and Bioshock were brilliant games under the 2k label. I have great expectations of BioShock Infinite as well. Railroads and Colonization were big disappointments but Railroads mis-direction was entirely intentional because that's the game Sid...
Thormodr is by far the most intelligent poster in this thread. Everyone should be listening to his comments as he's more accurate than most of you can imagine.
Furthermore I can't believe how many of you forget so quickly. Jon was excellent with mod-work and as Jon has already mentioned...
It's usable, just inconvenient in many ways. Hopefully they can change some window & menu properties, and institute a click & drag (or ctrl-click) "group move command" so we don't have to move every unit, one at a time, forever.
If you've seen my posts, you know how critical I've been. But statements like this are just so ignorant. Do you give up on Football player for life because they didn't hit the stats you wanted? Never expecting they can improve between seasons? Learning the game as they gain experience...
Pure speculation...
1. Game design is ridiculously difficult no matter how long you've been doing it. Seems like most PC strategy game developers have taken their lumps lately. Paradox Interactive, Creative Assembly, Stardock, Firaxis etc.
2. The Game Engine (still Gamebryo?)...
I bet Jon spent an extra month past his leave date to try and fix this game up before he moved. Maybe two months, if so he went above and beyond what was expected and I can see why Firaxis has been having issues shifting responsibility.
All of you should be happy for Stardock and Firaxis...
You know, I somehow doubt Jon is the type of person to ignore everyone to intentionally make decisions to screw people over. I'm sure he truly believed they had the time and resources so everything he wanted to do would work out. They didn't and that is not Jon's fault. It did work out fine...
Themeinteam - yes I fully agree with the fact that whoever decided how this GUI would work needs to have their head examined... if they can't see the forest from the trees. It's just like the design of the mod window - being unable to stretch the window to accomodate more than 6 items at a...
Dale nice write-up. It's too bad you couldn't be this forthright from the beginning as it made people confused at how someone who has such a brilliant mind for Civ was defending stuff we all obviously hate and what sometimes felt like total ignorance on the part of the Firaxis staff to wards...
I really hate the city-state mechanic as it's just a cheap game trick too add some busy-work to a game lacking natural immersion. So no, you're not the only person who turns them off, as I do as well.
I think it's fairly obvious this is why the last patch took so long and we didn't have interim fixes. They knew he was moving on and needed to get as much done as they could while he was still on-board.
Designing these types of games has got to be extremely stressful, so maybe we'll find out...
