Civ III Complete 1.22 Rev A Patch

Oh, there's no reluctance to patch at all. I'm a firm believer in patching any game. I just had the misunderstanding that it was for Intel Mac players. I think I will go ahead and patch up just to do it. Hopefully the reported slowdowns won't be too much of an issue because I love playing Huge maps.

Civ III Complete 1.22 Rev A Patch

Thanks, Alan. Sounds like I'm good to go then and can just disregard the patch because all 3 points you make are nonissues to me: I don't care about compressed saved files, opening up windows-saved files, or playing mods (at least for now).

Civ III Complete 1.22 Rev A Patch

I get the impression from this patch that it's only for players on Intel Macs that want Universal Binary support. Am I right? I'm on a G5 iMac and was wondering whether this was even needed.

    Intro Research slider

I'm curious what most players set the initial slider at after founding the first city. I'm getting ready to play a Marathon game at Nobel difficulty, so the game speed really slows down the time for research.

    Early tech trading

Okay, keep in mind I just started playing Warlords yesterday, so this will sound like a ridiculous question. I'm accustomed to be able to trade techs immediately in Civ III when discovering another Civ and that's not the case in Civ IV. What am I missing? What do I need to trade early techs?

Guys, I need to bow out for now. Sorry! I was looking forward to this, but some other stuff came up.

Beamup, what is the official rotation as of now. Is Blue Monkey not joining us until later?

    Complete Mac Mayania

It all sounds good. I'll keep the 'ol research slider maxed. So are we all in agreement that the first order of research business is a beeline to Republic?

Definitely no worker automation. The only situation where I feel it's allowable is to clear pollution in the Industrial Age and beyond. Something else we haven't really discussed is Science and Entertainment sliders. Beamup mentioned he was going to research Warrior Code at 100%. My only...

Can't I shrink files directly within OS X? I've got Stuffit Expander to expand files, but don't you need the Deluxe version to shrink files?

    Complete Mac Mayania

Beamup, look like a nice start. Just so I'm clear (remember, this is my 1st SG), I take my 10 turns after Blue Monkey posts his file, correct? I've never attached files in this forum, but I'm assuming all I do is click the paper clip icon and then find my file in the documents folder?

Ah, I see. The leader plays 20 turns, then it's someone elses turn (not everyones). More discussion. Then another person and so on. Thanks for links. I guess I'll rethink changing to democracy in my own games in the future.

Decisions, decisions. That's what makes Civ such a great game. Keeping your civ on the edge of revolt means you have far fewer happy people which is a direct impact on final score. But you probably have more money to research quicker if you're not putting into entertainment so finishing the game...

Well, I'm pretty sure I haven't. How happy do you keep your people? Is there any truth to my thinking about happy people won't revolt as long? Where do you keep your entertainment slider?

Hey, I'm certainly not married democracy. Whatever everyone else wants to do is fine. 6-7 turns of anarchy is too long for sure. I never have 6-7 turns of anarchy. One thing I've noticed is depending on how happy your people are BEFORE you thrown your civ into anarchy can affect how many turns...
