You know what that means... DLC incoming.

Well, I was already surprised that they didn't put out something immediately after release. I somewhat sympathize with them and the potentially diffficult spot this puts them in. Releasing the DLC before some of the more glaring issues have been tackled (AI, UI scaling, crashing that some...

Civ 6 with 25% at Green man gaming

Yes. I have bought and pre-ordered various titles on GMG over the years, and I have never had any problems. With sales like these, they sacrifice a chunk of their profit for new customers, whereas Valve/Steam just keep the full 30% cut. Nothing illegitimate about it.

What do you think about graphics of the game? (poll)

I liked the graphics before the videos, and I still like them. Went with a 9/10.

    Computer Spec. Required

I had grudgingly kept Win8 when it came with a new laptop a couple years ago. It was all right after a while, but definitely worse than Win7 in terms of interface. Windows 10 came with a gaming desktop that I bought this past Christmas and I was very reluctant for privacy and bandwidth reasons...

Old timer's, what are your thoughts so far?

Started with the Atari ST versions, but mostly skipped 3. So far, I'm pretty excited about Civ 6, particularly after 64-bit support and multi-threading for the AI were confirmed. There is still relatively little information out yet, though, so I'm as excited as I am about every Civ release...

    Should we expect expansions?

Paradox do release patches often, though, sometimes several a week, and they very actively communicate with the player base (including roadmaps with estimated times). Firaxis are far less accessible and significantly slower in responding to balancing and technical issues. Looking at Civ 5, it...

The 2 gig wall from 32 bit games & Civ 6

The discussion had drifted toward including multithreading and cores, which relates to the performance concerns. That's what I referred to. :)

The 2 gig wall from 32 bit games & Civ 6

Civ 6 will be the first Civ since 3 where I don't have to buy a new machine just to run it well. The box I put together a few months back has a 5820k, so six physical cores, which I really hope the game will make use of. I went with the 5820k instead of a 6700k (quad core, but higher tacted)...

Art Style Poll - Are you turned off or excited?

I actually like the new art style. Sure, it's game-y, and that is the appeal. It just has more character than the "realistic" style of Civ 5, which I experienced as somewhat sterile (especially after Civ 4). In the end, though, what matters to me are gameplay and depth, not eye candy. Graphics...

Art style reminiscent of civ revolution 1 & 2

Art is always a matter of preference. Personally, I like the style shown in the few Civ 6 screenshots we have seen so far, and prefer it to the Civ 5 style. Then again, I also found Civ 4's visuals more pleasing than 5's.

    Preparing for Civ 6

Currently playing Stellaris, but downloaded Civ5 again as it's been a while since I last played it. If the BE expansion gets a juicy discount in the Steam summer sale, then I'll be playing that too.

A major thing that Civilization "gets right" compared to contemporary video games

When I was a teen, in the eighties, many games used highscore lists as a motivational element. Fundamentally, they were not so different from today's achievements. I actually like trophies because they are a bit like a mini game; something to collect or "work" toward to. Objectives, especially...

    Civ:BE Expansion Situation

I'd be surprised if they had made Civ:BE without an expansion already in mind (and partially being developed before release).

Civ 5 or BE for a new player?

I'd actually have suggested the complete edition of Civ 4 instead of either of those. :)

Civilization Beyond Earth now at 52% discount!! Enjoy while it lasts! ;)

Games go so quickly on sale now that I rarely buy anything at full-price anymore. Civ:BE was a gift from a friend, though, and she had bought it at the release price.
