The title really says it all. I tried Civ4 and didn't really like it, but that probably had to do with the fact that my computer back then was just too old and slow to handle it. But now I have a fast Mac laptop, and I'm wondering if I should get Civ5 for it. Do any former (or current) Civ3...
I have gone off to college, so I don't have Civ and can't play. I'll drop in every now and then to check up on the game and/or participate in discussions.
This game is definitely still winnable, no question. We just have to play better. Games that seem hopeless often are, because chances are that if you got yourself into a hopeless situation, you aren't good enough to get out of it. However, I don't think that's the case here. We're collectively...
Pre-turn: A little MM. I make Orleans grow faster and get Paris some extra commerce--which it uses for extra entertainment, but
oh well. Change Tours from warrior to worker.
1. Paris settler > settler. I send him southwest. Tours worker > worker. Lux tax to 0, SCI to 90.
2. Lyons worker >...
Nice progress. Who's up? I'm going to busy doing a lot of random little things when I get home, so I won't be able to play immediately. Someone else could get a set in.
Likewise, I didn't mean to sound too critical. I played in SGs for a number of years, and I always appreciated terse comments that helped me be a better player, like "STOP BUILDING TEMPLES" and "Do not waste China's GA on infrastructure when you could have built enough riders to have the world...
We've made some mistakes, some with technology, some with city placement--the placement of Orleans is eventually going to cost us 100 shields, for example. Why are we researching philosophy on min? There's no way we're going to get to it first, so why use min research on a cheap, useless tech...
I can't look at the save to give any specific advice, but what I've been doing for a while now (unless I'm playing AW) is Best Spot Available (BSA). I have pretty much forgotten city placement patterns and just look for the best places for cities. Sometimes it ends up being CXXXXC, somtimes CXXC.
I much prefer horsemen to swordsmen. The extra movement saves you a lot of shields, because you can use a mobile, offensive defense instead of stationing spearmen in every city in potential danger. Also, horsemen can counterattack without leaving themselves out to dry, so the weak defense isn't...
I'd love to play, but I'm going to be out of pocket for a few weeks starting this saturday and then go off to college in September. So during August I could play, and a month is about as long as is needed to play an SG.
Sid is a big jump from Deity, a much bigger jump than Deity is from DG...
