What did he say here that isn't respected in Civ5? Notably less RNG, AI remaining cocky when down to one city.

Giving them strategic units is a waste when they lack the resource.

This has happened to me too. Now when that city conquered dialog comes I just chose puppet for all cities, then I consider which I keep,raze or give back. They should use a regular notification not this huge popup which hides everything.

I don't remember the exact steps but I've seen that happen in the save filename box.

Managed a few times to extort a little gold or open borders, but that was after they were beaten.

They do ally to CS, I don't know how they chose, but I don't like the idea of making the game revolve even more around maritime CS. I think a player or AI should have the choice to rely on maritime or be self sufficient, and remain competitive in both cases.

Do Civ5 AIs all have the same settling pattern, or some like spaced empires better?

In my experience they actually build a decent amount of caravels which they upgrade to destroyers. I never fight in the seas so I can't tell how well they use it, but I did once lost a coastal city to three destroyers. It was on pangea and thought it was safe with only an old enemy horse unit...

I always have this problem, even on pangea; for example on my current game Hiawatha started in a peninsula and managed to cram 20 cities there... I have only 7 and the other AIs even less.

I once had Darius told me very soon how afraid he was, despite me having only my initial warrior. He kept telling me that even when my advisor said he was more powerful.
