Blue Monkey
Archon Without Portfolio
The announcement is for finished creations only. That does include public betas of scenarios. Please note: No discussions in this thread about the merits of items submitted. Keep that to the item's own thread. Questions and so on about the format for announcements, etc. are of course allowed.
Required Format for Submissions
If you would like your new or updated CiV file included in the front-page news, make a post in the following format:
Moderator Action: ATTENTION, new posting scheme:
For the future, please post in the following way:
My file by MyName, e.g.
Chinese Rifleman by bernie14
If there are multiple modders, please name them all.
If you use the database link or the forum thread is up to you.
If you have a nice image, then please include it in the post. Size does not matter, but if there's nothing recognizable in it after being shrinked to a width of 125 or 250 px then it will probably not be included.
If possible images are obvious in the linked thread/database entry, then there's no need to include them again in the post here, I'll grab them from there.
If it's not obvious to which category it belongs (e.g. units, mods, maps), then please say in the post what it is.
If there's something really important about this file/the update, then please also state it, but not more than 2 sentences please.
Original post:

Type: (Scenario, Unit, Modpack, Map, Utility Program, Tutorial, etc)
File Version:
Requirements: (official patches, etc.)
File Entry URL: (please add your file to the file database if you haven't already!) Make sure that the entire URL shows as posted.
Author Name: (your CFC name, that is)

Guidelines for Links
If you see "..." in the middle of the URL as posted then please take a few seconds to edit your post to show the whole URL. There are going to be so many submissions that I won't have the time to correct your link for you. The link you post can be either to the item's thread or to the download page in the db.
How to properly display a long link:
YOU INSERT A SPACE
There are also other ways to shorten how a URL linking to a thread or post appears.
REMOVE THE LAST PART OF THE URL CODE STRING
USE [POST=#####] INSTEAD OF [URL=#####]
None of these methods is any better than another. It just depends on which one is easier for you to understand & use. Personally, I prefer the post= method because I only have to remember to begin with [post = ####] and end with [/post]. But other people may find one of the other methods easier. Hopefully at least one of those makes sense & seems simple enough to put to use.
Guidelines for Previews
Three options to get a picture in the preview gallery:
Please post previews with at least one dimension in easy to manage sizes as listed below. Previews in irregular sizes may not get used at all, especially when time is tight. Screenshots are fine - but are subject to arbitrary chopping & scaling to reduce them to a dimension of 128, 256, 320, etc. If you've got multiple items, you can combine these standard sizes into larger images. I seriously doubt anything larger than 320x320 will make it unscathed.
Any image without at least one dimension of 320 pixels or smaller may not be used at all. Larger images are very difficult to work with & do not show well in a small preview.
If you make a preview that fits, you get to make the aesthetic decisions.
Make my work easy. Then the announcements get out more frequently because each time there’s a new batch it's quicker to do the announcement. If there any problems with the announcement format, or suggestions to make the announcement more effective you're welcome to post them here or contact me by pm.

Spoiler :
YOU INSERT A SPACE
Spoiler :
The key is to insert a space between the bracket & the http.
example:
Original:
Change to:
It's a subtle difference. The only change is just to insert a space (_ shows where to put the space, it's not an underline):
example in action:
Link without extra space:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=15598
Same link with space added:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=15598
A Really Big Thanks to CommanderZ for the original hint. And thanks also to Manifold for suggesting I add this explanation to the OP.

- In your post here put a separate, clearly labeled, link to the preview you want
