I'm starting a new job on Monday and it is a definite step up from my old job; the only reason it doesn't have the "Director of" title is because they had to adjust it to match their internal HR scale as I had fewer years of experience going in. I'll be interacting quite a bit with commodity...
Currently working on two books. The Mediterranean and the Mediterranean World in the Age of Phillip II Vol.2 by Fernand Braudel. An absolute doorstop of a book, but a massive history of the economic, social, and political drivers. So far I enjoyed Volume 1 more, which was all about the economic...

I know a lot of us do pen and paper role playing games, but somehow we don't seem to have a thread on role playing games!
To start the discussions:
I've run into an issue when I DM games when players try and do social tests with the villain. For example, I was recently running a one-off set...
Split off from the "Is Donald Trump Done For?" thread...
I have no idea why Democrats think it is a good idea to push so hard on late-term abortions. It isn't a vote winner, mobilizes the evangelicals like nobody's business, and is an area of abortion a lot of people (such as myself) are...

Perhaps the media will stop fetishizing eccentric billionaires with delusions of grandeur. We have already seen them finally do some halfway honest reporting on Facebook and treating Mark Zuckerberg as a CEO of a major business accused of some very...

Should Ireland be considered part of Western Civilization given their attack on liberal values?
Will the alt-right come out from beneath their bridge and condemn...
I was wondering, does a civilian who appears to chose to remain in an active war zone have the same protection as civilians who happen to be near an active war zone?
I was reading an article on the siege of Aleppo and I was wondering who chooses to remain inside a city that has seen constant...
As we all know one of Trump's campaign promises was to bring jobs back to America, mainly in the context of manufacturing. However, US manufacturing output is at near record highs as this graph from the American Enterprise Institute shows:
Assuming that Trump actually meant solidly...
With the election reaching a fever pitch, what games are you playing to avoid having to deal with it?
What Video Games have you been playing I: My Muffintop Expands!
What Video Games have you been playing II: Have you finished that backlog?

I don't know about you, but I haven't heard much about the Polish Death Camps until the Polish government decided to let everybody know about the Polish Death Camps and what they are going to do about the Polish Death Camps.

I'm having issues installing Civ4 on my new computer.
I was able to run it just fine on my old laptop which ran windows 7 (Lenovo T420 Thinkpad from 2011) but when I went to install it on my new desktop- which runs Windows 7 also- I run into many issues.
1) Civ4 doesn't actually launch. I...

Is Ban Ki Moon "encouraging terror"? Is it acceptable for people to resort to violence when they believe diplomatic and peaceful avenues have failed to resolve problems? Can the half-dead dinosaur that is the "peace process" lurch back to...
I was having a discussion with a friend about soft power and an interesting question came up. Since 1945 has the BBC or the British military done more "good" in the world? (ie: Making the world a better place. Define "better place" however you feel.)
I'd be interested to see what CFC thinks...
Because the Middle East doesn't have enough problems.

Outside of the "Peace Process" increasingly appearing quite dead, but occasionally shows signs on movement when poked, the biggest takeaway from the article for me was this:
As far as...
So, the international community looks like it might start caring about the Syrian Civil War again. (And admitting their earlier policies were a bit misguided).

Thoughts?
Does this, as suggested by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, "hurt" the peace process? Is the peace process even alive at this point? Will the Catholic Church deploy its not insignificant moral...
Hello,
I'm working on a mod where I want a religion to add unhappiness to a city as it spreads rather than happiness. Is this function controlled by XML and if yes, what XML file? I looked in the ReligionInfos file and saw nothing about controlling happiness there.
Any help is appreciated.
