well, i've also opened a ticket at aspyr - although the cynical side of me doubts they'll be *that* interested in devoting much time to bug-hunting a non-current product.

well, there's the rub. as [i think] i mentioned previously in this thread, it crashes so quickly it disnae even generate an entry in the crash logs. :confused:

not for me. i've got civ III set to run in windowed mode by default anyway. under leopard it willnae even launch. i get the following error: not the most informative one i've ever seen! :rolleyes:

funny i should get a notification that there'd been a reply to this thread today; the release of 10,5,2 decided me to give leopard another go and i just re-installed yesterday [i'd reverted to tiger when i found out what a buggy POS leopard 10,5 was] 10,5,2 is slightly better but unfortch...

i managed to get civ3 working again by binning leopard and *upgrading* back to tiger again. funnily enough this fixed the about half dozen other apps i had which no longer worked properly. leopard ain't ready yet IMHO

for me civ 4 is like civ 3 designed by fisher price. it's fudging' horrible. i'll stick to 3.

i always play the celts. i'm still see-sawing between which of my two possible strategies is the best tho'. each has its up and down side: 1). go all out to research iron working and find some iron and build a city on it as early as possible. and then churn out those gallic swordsman. IMHO...

deleting the stuff in my docs folder didnae make any difference. however, i have had one minor success. i was able to run the game when logged in as root, so i reckon there's some kind of permissions shenanigans going on. even logged in as root, i get the 'please insert the original disc'...

[UPDATE] i've just tried launching civ from the DVD itself and although it failed to launch again, it did actually generate a crash report this time. so here it is:

i don't think that's the problem. whether the DVD is mounted or not i just get that irritatingly vague error every time; "an unrecoverable error has occurred and civilization 3 cannot continue". seems it disnae even get as far as asking for the DVD to be inserted if it's not in the drive.

trouble is, it's not actually generating any crash logs. i had a console window open before while trying to launch the app and nothing got recorded. the crash.logs i've got in my crashreporter directory all relate to previous times when civ crashed while it was running. the current 'crash...

i get a dialogue saying "an unrecoverable error has occurred and civilization 3 cannot continue" EDIT: since posting earlier, i tried the old remedy of deleting the prefs and now neither complete or PTW will start - even after a reinstall, both generate this same error dialogue. i even used...

i'm running leopard on a G4 powerbook. 'complete' won't start up, but PTW will. unfortunate really, as i always get my arse kicked in PTW but do occasionally manage to do OK in complete :sad:
