A disease has swept across most of my cities! Help!!

All unhealthiness does is use up extra food. So if you don't have any way to reduce it, just don't worry about it. Even if it does lead to starvation, then your city will eventually reduce its size and the problem will have corrected itself.

I'm a Newbie who NEEDS help!

It really doesn't matter which civilization you pick, but I would recommend taking a leader who has the financial trait.

    diplomatic victory guffaw

I think the reason he needed to run against Gilgamesh instead of Tokugawa was that Tokugawa was going to vote for him but Gilgamesh isnt. So attacking Tokugawa would probably make it harder for him to win.

    diplomatic victory guffaw

Does Tokugawa have more votes than Gilgamesh? The number of votes is equal to the total number of city size points a civilization has, which is different from the total population of the civilization. When you say Gilgamesh has more population, are the numbers you are looking at in millions...

    New Player Question

When a city grows that will increase the unhappiness due to crowding, not decrease it. Thats why there is a button to avoid growth. If a city is at its happiness limit, you should not let it grow until you can increase happiness though resources, buildings, or civics. As for city spacing...

    I've Reached a Plateau - Any Pointers?

What i notice from your screenshots is that you have done a really bad job at building tile improvements. Unless you're at war and an enemy has pillaged all your improvements, then it seems like you just haven't built enough. All of your cities could be larger, your tech rate could be much...

    Attacko's 7 Facts of War

Those aren't facts; they are actually guidelines.

The King of the World Throne Room

I would have to agree with all the India suggestions. Its not a place that you have started out before, has some great land, and has many options for expansion since its in the center of the old world. The other suggestions sound interesting too. Oh, and I like the roleplaying style of your...

    Moving from Vanilla to BtS

I think the general consensus when BtS was released was that it was actually easier than Vanilla or Warlords. Due to the improved AI, many bonuses that AI civs got at higher difficulty levels were removed in BtS. The effect of the removed bonuses was actually greater than the effect of the...

ALC Game #25 Pre-Game Show: Playing as the Celts/Boudica

I might be wrong, but I don't think there has been a Pangaea ALC game yet. Boudica would be a good leader for a pangaea game, as she is obviously best at early and frequent warfare. I think it would be interesting to see you go for an early domination win on a pangaea map.

How to have the best research rate possible?

I usually cottage every flat tile thats in one of my cities' fat cross. If the city is low on food, then I might need some farms, but usually not. Try to found all your cities to have at least one food resource in its radius and you wont need any farms. Just remember to keep 1-3 cities as...

GP Farms: How many do you build?

I think a "GP farm" has to have the National Epic in it. If you are running a specialist economy you might have many cities that have many specialists and sometimes produce great people, but I wouldn't call them GP farms. I think the problem with this whole question is that "GP farm" does not...

Why wasn't I a candidate for secretary general?

It sounds like you guys figured out why sury ran against peter instead of Simon, but I don't think anyone answered his question here, so I'll do it. If you go into the victory conditions screen (The red fist button) and click on "members," there is a chart showing how many votes each civ...

    Roleplaying Challenge: Dubya

A great and entertaining read so far! I turned off all the advising and tips when I first got civ4, so I am really surprised at how poor they are. Its amazing that you are on a coast but you have yet to build a coastal city, but that would be because the game hasn't suggested any for you yet...

    City Specialization

You should decide your city specialization somewhat on the plots each city has to work, but more important, you need to consider what your long-term victory goals are. You should have at least 1 production city that has heroic epic and only builds military units, but if you are aiming for...

    ALC Game #23: America/Lincoln

To answer your question about Defensive Pacts, they do not get canceled if the civilization you are friendly with drops to pleased. So if you want a defensive pact with Gilly, you can get one now and keep it even if he changes to free religion. If you are going for a diplomatic win, then you...

Marathon question. Copper and Iron related.

You almost always get one of the three, if not more.

    Monasteries

Its not usually easy to get 5 religions in a city though. On harder difficulty levels you can't found all the religions.

    Should i play again?

How long your turns take depends on how much you have going on in the game as well as how good your PC is. I would suggest trying a normal or small map to see if the turns go quicker. There have been 2 patches in the last year or so, and patch 3.17 was just last week. However, they mostly...

All Leaders Challenge Game 19: Sumer/Gilgamesh

I would recommend settling 1NW of your starting location, on the dye tile that your warrior is on now. On a pangea map that would not be a good move, but remember that this is a hemispheres map, and you chose three continents. If you are going for domination, you are going to want to have good...
