    Is it worthwhile delaying eras?

And is the game just a land rush now? Recently what I've been doing is spamming out settlers and founding new cities. Then to make sure the districts aren't all that expensive to build I've been delaying tech. I do that by researching all the techs in one era before any of the techs in the...

    Wonder consolation prize

It bugs me that it is a cash payout. It SHOULD be hammers towards an equivalent non wonder building. Fail to build the great library? You should get hammers toward a library. Fail to build the great lighthouse or the handing garden? Hammers towards a lighthouse out garden. I think you...

How do you win a science victory?????

This is the victory condition I can't ever achieve. The problem is that I win some other victory before I get there. Basically because by the time I am that far down the tech tree with enough production to build the ship I am likely winning a domination or diplomatic victory or a cultural...

Do you stop war mongering when the world congress is founded?

I generally war monger from the time I get universities up, to the time the world congress is founded. I beeline education and anything that helps me get food and production going, build a university in my capital, then start pumping out units. I may have managed to get a few out before that...

    Where will my borders be?

Any way to tell where the cultural border of a city will be, when it overlaps another city that is going to flip to another player? I have just conquered Carthage and Utique from Dido. I am planning to keep Carthage and eventually annex it, it'll make a nice sea port for churning out a navy...

How the heck do you win a cultural victory?

Every time I think I am well on my way to winning a cultural victory, I win a diplomatic victory first. I mean, if I cancelled the diplo condition, it seems like I would have got the cultural victory... but... SO FRUSTRATING!

    World's Fair, International Games, etc.

Do you ever build these? I view them as a distraction from developing my cities. But who knows. I do like to propose them at the world congress, because it makes everybody love me. Then I vote against my own proposition so that I can propose it again and make everybody love me more. But I...

    The empire of Manila

OK, so Ragusa mistakenly allied itself with England while Manila had correctly allied itself with me. After Elizabeth was sent off into the netherworld, I decided not to make peace with Ragusa, because Manila had them on the ropes. Instead I sent over a few battleships to tip the battle in...

    War Roads

I haven't seen this discussed much, but I do it ALL THE TIME. Thought I would share: When I go to war, I always send a couple of workers along with the troops. I use them to build war roads: Roads over strategic hills and across rivers so that I can advance a range unit and fire in a single...

    King Solomon of Arabia

Got this as my opener Decided I'd like to be on the hilltop, so I moved my settler, and sent my warrior to explore to the south. Next turn, move my warrior south again and low and behold: Hey... I could settle on that! Maybe. The hammers HAVE to be worth a few more turns to settle...

The benefits of warring without mongering

In my last game (immortal) I ran into Songhai early, we were the only two civs on a continent with some pretty nice spots to settle a city. I wanted them! I lucked out and had one scout upgrade to an archer, pumped out one more archer, and sent the two of them plus my warrier to his capital...

    Ideological flip flopper

Wondering about this strategy. There are a lot of nice policies on the ideological tree, BUT they lock you into a ideology. Unless you know what ideology is going to prevail... maybe it is best to be a flip flopper. What I mean is intentionally avoid picking policies on the ideology tree...

Finished tradition, Liberty next for a warmonger?

I am Attila, planning on war mongering. However, as it turned out the situation called for a turtle start, production rich but food poor capitol so I beelined hanging gardens instead, then picked up oracle, national college, even national epic (so cheap with only one city). Still, I am itching...

How far would you move a settler?

My present opening. Mongolia, immortal, turn 1, playing the fall patch beta. I haven't moved my settler yet--he's in a nice place by the water with a good number of resources. I moved my warrior to see what was near the river hill and, lo and behold, there in the distance--Ularu! So sad I'm not...

    Genocide!

Do you usually wipe out civilizations? Babylon made the mistake of attacking me. I took his capital, and his next best city, liberated Jerusalem, and torched one other along the way. Now he has two lame cities left. No lux that I don't already have, no wonders, nothing. He also has no...

    Is Babylon spreading my religion?

I see a babylonian missionary approaching my borders. Here's the thing... I have converted all Babylonian cities to my religion, including the capital. He has "happily adopted" my religion, and he doesn't even have a pantheon! But he has a missionary. Which means, he got 200 faith together...

    Shrine > Monument

I think building a shrine is WAY more important than building a monument. A shrine gets you a pantheon, which can significantly boost the value of tiles in your main cities, or other benefits. Also gives you a shot at getting a good religion. Add on some of the beliefs you may get and the...

Do high level spies make better diplomats?

I like to keep one spy in my capital killing thiefs. Usually I use my highest ranking spy. The rest work in my diplomatic corp. Diplomats never level up. Wondering if there is any benefit in using a higher ranked spy. Do they get better deals? Make introductions faster? Doesn't seem so but I...

    I wish...

... that when you told the AI "don't settle near me" or some other demand, it was an ultimatum. If the AI refused, it would start a war. Similarly, AI demands on you, if refused, should trigger war. There should be a diplomatic penalty for starting a war any other way.

    Anti Start Bias

I wish that start bias also excluded things. Like, landlocked civ should not start on a coast, northerly civ should not start with desert, tropical civ should not start with tundra. I also wish you could have an option to bias in favour of historical neighbors. Not exact neighbors but Asian...
