    Preserve District

Gotta say as a primarily peaceful-builder type player, I really love the addition of the preserve district. It has improved the game flavor for me drastically, especially when roleplaying as environmentalist Maori or something along those lines. However due to the terrain restrictions and the...

Lux Trades with AI - price factors?

I couldn't find a thread...has anyone figured out which factors can affect the prices the AI wants for luxury trades? I feel like it can change dramatically sometimes, but I don't know why. Relationship is a part of it, but not the whole equation right? I have definitely had AI with bad...

    Netherlands a bit underwhelming?

None of their other abilities are too strong, so I was expecting the polder to be a very good UI. And on paper they seem good...if you can build them together. But that's the problem. In my first attempt, on an archipelago map, I'm up to about a dozen cities, and still don't have a single...

[R&F] peaceful culture OCC - making a comeback in R&F?

One of the things I miss from civ5, is the viability of peaceful OCC games. In particular, a wonder-heavy culture victory. In civ 5, this was consistently viable up to emperor level at least. I'm hoping that option might be back in R&F. Consider the main limitations currently holding back...

    How to play religious?

Normally I ignore religion, to focus on expansion & military until I have secured a good sized piece of land. This works great of course. I win emperor and immortal easily with this strategy. But sometimes I feel like I'm missing out on one of the core game systems, so I'll switch it up...

    "Appeal" values from screenshots

Someone on reddit compiled screenshots of all the tooltips from Quill's video here: https://imgur.com/a/hdms1 It looks like we can figure out all the "appeal" values. My best guess is: +1 for each neighboring forest or mountain hex +1 for each neighboring coast hex (does not include...

    Affinity choices affecting gameplay

It seems to me like the affinity system is not tied at all to any choices you make in the game, other than choosing the quest options. Like, it's perfectly OK to go harmony while at the same time you are committing genocide on the aliens. Am I missing something here?

[BNW] France OCC - Emperor - fast wins?

I was messing around with France/OCC/culture on emperor level over the weekend, trying to get the fastest peaceful culture win, and was able to get my win time down to 218 turns on the third try. All 3 wins were under 250 turns, so this is pretty easy. The basic strat was to get as much...

Portugal - Nau spam strategy (immortal)

I just finished a game with Portugal and wanted to share. On most of the Portugal threads I've read around here, they aren't really focused on the Nau. I think it really has the power to win games for you single-handedly, if you adapt your strategy. So in this game, I ended up with only 2...

    Earliest AI win times?

I'm just curious, what are the earliest wins you guys have seen from the AI in BNW? Please include the victory type, difficulty, turn number and game speed. In G&K I had seen the AI launch spaceships before turn 250 (standard speed) on immortal. But it really doesn't seem to be anywhere...

[BNW] Immortal - Peaceful Culture Victory Guide - this time with pictures

This is a follow up to this thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=12716682 In that thread, I laid out a basic strategy of peacefully building 4 cities, teching up (but not signing RAs), fully utilizing the world congress and getting some key wonders en route to a cultural...

[BNW] Peaceful Culture Victory Guide (immortal)

Peaceful Culture Victory Guide - Immortal and Below Being a builder at heart, I have been addicted to the culture game since BNW was released. Science was always my go-to VC in G&K and vanilla...it was reliable, repeatable in most circumstances, and set you up for an overall strong position...

    is Morocco's UA a joke?

The fact that the bonuses don't apply to the trade route, but go directly into your empire-wide bucket, means they are not multiplied by anything. That means the HIGHEST bonus you get is just 8 culture a turn and 24 gold unless you get the trade route wonders. Even if you get Colossus and...

    Early Trade Routes

I only have a brief experience so far, but I have to say so far it looks like (sea) trade routes really have to be considered carefully. It seems VERY easy for barb ships to pillage them, and then you lose the entire trade route. There's also a pretty significant hammer cost, both in the...

    Tips for late-game science victory?

No matter what I do, I always end up with too many scientists at the end of the game when I go for science victory. I'm not sure why, because it happens every time and I try to adjust every time from my last game, but it just doesn't work. Last time I had 3 extra scientists. I am doing just...

    Gold efficiency of unit upgrades

It occurred to me over the weekend that there can be a big difference in the cost of some upgrades vs. the benefits of the upgrade. when you have a ton of older units laying around, it can be tough to prioritize which ones you want to upgrade first. If you're at war its easy, you upgrade what...

Want to go wide? Try the Mayans

I just played my first immortal game and I have to say the Mayans seem incredibly powerful for a wide empire/REX playstyle. Built 6 cities right off the bat and thats all I needed all game. The pyramid giving plus 2 science as well as 2 faith is absolutely huge. This allows you to offset...

espionage very punishing on tall empires?

did they mean to make that effect so strong? I am playing my first game with a wide empire. All my cities have pretty low relative potential and so they have never been targetted, despite my being #1 in science overall. One of the AI is playing like an OCC with one really big city so it...
