    Beelining Petra

I've been trying some games as Arabia, and one of the things I've been trying to do is to beeline Petra to see if it's viable. I play on immortal and continents or pangaea. However, I haven't had much success going straight for currency - some other civ has always beaten me to Petra. I am...

    Useless beliefs

Over the course of patches and now BNW - I think some beliefs really need some changes/buff, otherwise they're just totally useless. Many have at least situational usages, but the ones I list below are so inferior that you'd only pick them if you have absolutely no choice - usually not the case...

    Early early war

Has anyone had good success fighting really early wars and then rolling to win domination? I have been trying on immortal to do that with civs that don't have an early advantage, and find myself falling behind more often than not. The lack of money and trade routes and the warmonger penalty seem...

    Protecting trade routes

How do you guys protect your trade routes, especially sea trade routes? I find it almost impossible to keep those from being plundered, especially later in the game when you have ocean going vessels. Enemy ships just pop out of the blue and poof, your trade ship is gone. Unless you have an...

    Great start

I'm surprised I didn't get a game over screen right then and there.

    Tea and coffee

I'm still miffed that with the new expansion they didn't include tea and coffee - two of the most important commodities in the pre-modern world, and certainly important luxuries (people even went to war over tea) and yet, no inclusion in the game. Sigh. Rant over.

    Artifacts can use some work

The more I play BNW the less I like the current way artifacts are handled. Basically, a flat +2 tourism is not only boring, it's unrealistic and it also makes it so that there is very little incentive to build archaeologists (which are really expensive) unless you're going for a cultural...

    Settle promise bug

Recently I noticed in some games that I mysteriously get these "you promised not to settle, but you broke it" diplo hits or the similar no buying tiles promise. Except, I never promised anything and also didn't build city/buy tiles. Has anyone else seen it? It seems to happen after I load up a game

    Two tracked AI diplomatic stance

It seems to me there are two kinds of games now, diplomatically - either everyone is friends with everyone, or in some cases, like my current game, almost no one is friending anybody. Anyone else find that to be the case?

When do you catch up in tech?

As stated - when do you usually catch up in tech in your games? Please state difficulty and era. On immortal I seem to do it sometime during renaissance. I am mostly interested in folks who play on higher difficulties - there isn't much catching up to do on emperor or lower

    Stupid AI behaviour

Things like this is why the AI is terrible - this is late game, immortal, huge, archipelago. AI Ethiopia has at least 20 archaeologists (I already killed some) and there are more than enough to dig up the rest of the sites - if they can get to it first. This is not really rational behaviour and...

    AI peace deals

I'm rather annoyed that a lot of times now it seems impossible to get the AI to pay me any money - they just want to give me cities and no money. When I ask for money and no city, I seem to get no more than a few gpt, if even. Sometimes their 10 pop city isn't worth 1 gpt, apparently. Anyone...

    City states bonuses

It seems to me that city state bonuses are now more important than ever for culture - with culture now nerfed, my tall empire of four cities doesn't usually pump out much more than maybe 40-50 culture even by Renaissance, and that's assuming I got some kind of wonder going. Whereas a single...

    World Congress/UN diplomat idea

I think instead of the current "you have to have a diplomat in their capital to buy their votes" mechanic, the way it should work is to have your diplomat in the city where the WC/UN is, and if you have a guy parked there, you can talk to everyone. After all, this is how the UN works - everybody...

    OCC in BNW

I'm thinking of starting a new game with OCC turned on. Any thoughts of best civ? I haven't tried Venice yet, but I'd imagine it'll be a good choice. Probably try it on immortal, but maybe emperor would be safer (huge map) With ideology kicking in only if you have three factories, I'd think...

    Writer gives too little culture?

I find the secondary function of a writer - giving culture - to be extremely low value. The first writer you get probably grants you about 250-300 culture, at least from the games I've played so far. That's a pathetic amount, maybe 10 turns worth. Should it be buffed or reworked? This is...

    Worst start ever?

What's your worst start ever? I just started a game, random civ, random map, huge, marathon, immortal Turned out I am England, plopped onto an island of maybe 40 tiles, of which 35 of them are desert, and the other five are plains. I think I'm doomed.

    Ruins and AI

I know a fair number of you play with no ruins. For those who do - am I imagining things, or is the AI in BNW not going after ruins as much? I seem to be opening way more ruins than I used to in GNK.

Am I missing something with the barbs?

People keep saying the barbarians are more active and aggressive - I don't see it. I always played with raging barbarians, and to me, BNW looks the same as before? Maybe they just turned on raging permanently (and didn't really buff barbs for those who pick raging)?
