    Deity Zulu

Taking him out before impis might not be possible in that situation, but crippling him before that shouldn´t be a problem. As long as he gets to CBs by like turn 60-65, taking him out shouldn't really be that big of a deal. Caravan is going to do nothing to keep shaka away and waiting for a...

This time, Shaka forward settled ME

Haha ok, that's shaka for you. You probably never stood much of chance then if he settled there when you had 3 pop

This time, Shaka forward settled ME

Lol, I didn't even check the minimap for a second city, I just assumed that he would've filled the gap since it looked like a perfectly viable settling location to the northeast. Yeah I noticed that after shimmlers post. I only missed it because I couldn´t imagine that a second city would´ve...

This time, Shaka forward settled ME

You can't really expect to be on turn 89 with one city and not be forward settled on, not even on emperor, let alone on deity. Shaka is a menace, but you should've settled at least one city at least 30 turns earlier and had like at least 5 CBs before even smelling an impending attack with him as...

    Question re: Chateaus

They replace them. It would be absolutely ridiculously OP if they didn't.

    NC by T60?

No, the discussion is on standard setting.

    Question about unit defending city???

No the unit doesn't defend itself if it's garrisoned in the city

    NC by T60?

How is an opening like that going to hurt a CV for instance? I don´t really see the downside of having the NC up as early as possible whether you´re going for CV or SV.

    NC by T60?

Unless you have godly settling locations for 4 cities, going liberty and getting a culture hut, getting NC up by turn 70 doesn´t really seem possible. I don´t see how you would have 3 settlers in time and have the time to rush buy at least 1 library to be able to get the NC up that early. 3...

    Neb or Gustav...

However that doesn´t usually happen on higher difficulties. On immortal and deity it's much more of an issue to have the "wrong" ideology when going for anything other than CV.

    Emperor difficulty in BNW

This is purely anecdotal evidence, but on emperor at least I don´t feel that trade routes really makes a difference on diplomacy. The AI just isn´t that aggressive on emperor and below. On immortal however it seems to have more of an impact on the AIs early aggression, but that seems to fade...

    Early game strategy help

It´s not really about it being faster, the major difference is the hammers you save early on if you manage to steal a worker instead of hardbuilding it. Also writing doesn´t give you NC, philosophy does.

    Early game strategy help

Well I believe that you´re the only one claiming that scouts shouldn´t be built at all in a normal situation, I´ve never seen anyone else make that claim and frankly it makes absolutely no sense. By missing out on 20 culture, 60-100 gold, free archer upgrade etc. you also lose a fair amount of...

    Early game strategy help

The problem isn´t the turns you´re losing early on, it´s that you´re´delaying a later game SP because you now have to earn several hundred or thousands more culture (depending on how late in the game it is) because costs escalate with every new SP, delaying vital SPs with like 20 turns unless...

    Early game strategy help

Aside from rationalism, they probably are the best trees, but they both pretty much only benefit you early game. Either delaying the closing of liberty for a later game tech or delaying legalism may have its benefits, but other than that I don´t really see how the trees could be successfully...

    Early game strategy help

The problem with opening liberty, going citizenship and then go full tradition is that you´re delaying the opening of renaissance SPs with at least one SP. So in the long run I doubt that it´s possible to benefit from it. If one is hellbound on delaying the renaissance SPs or if you´re lucky to...

I guess you´re right I´ll just have to sacrifice some early growth or science if I feel like good locations are threatened

    Early game strategy help

Playing the same start over and over again is actually a great idea, I´ve never really tried it extensively and kept track of the progress. Since I go full tradition I don´t build monument, it seems like a huge waste of hammers since I´m getting it with the second SP anyway. The ambition...

    Early game strategy help

I feel like I get forward settled pretty much every time regardless of how close the other civs are (small map), assuming I have a good city location near me. I´ve pretty much automatically gone 2 scouts, but when I think about it, that´s kind of stupid I guess if the situation really warrants...

    Early game strategy help

I´d like to hear how people think early game, mostly regarding worker vs. settler vs. granary for example. I´m pretty comfortable on emperor and win the occasional game on immortal, so I´m not completely awful, but I really don´t have a good feel for the early game and what I need to...
