I'm willing to bet that most of the people here are having problems due to their monitor... is it older? What refresh rate is it running?
I'm running a 9800 pro and I've never ever had a problem with the graphics on either catalyst or OMEGA drivers. I have a brand new (relatively) 19" samsung...
I too am having a really hard time balancing this on emperor...
with a financial civ I can get away with 4-5 cities IF I have some gold to work with. Financial/Organized (washington) makes things really easy as far as creating a good city core but as you pointed out you spend so much time...
Boy do I need help with this start, I am really curious as to what some of you more experienced/talented civ players would do with this start. I played 150 turns and it didn't turn out as well as I had hoped for albeit I'm on a good track tech-wise. Just no space...
Attached is my save file...
I am running the most current version of the game (changed the save to .civ4savedgame and it recognizes it in the game folder but when I try to load it ingame it doesn't even see it.
wow I really ate over-expansion here, the thinking behind it was to get city sites I really wanted based on the coast to maximize the Great Lighthouse. It's going to hurt for a little while but I'm hoping to wage a pillage war vs Cyrus to buy myself enough time to research HBR and then sue for...
I read an interesting story about a famous Cavalry division during WW2 I think they were Polish, they were on horseback and they charged a full on company of German tanks because they had heard rumors that they were made out of cardboard :D
I have almost the exact same system as you do, only difference is I have 256mb of ram less than you. I only have problems in modern era and anything larger than standard maps. I've finished/played dozens of maps. So it sounds like something on your end and not the system/game. Try alt+ctrl+del...
if you have 1 unit on a square and 1 unit attacks it and loses. That unit will be damaged and will be easier to kill by another unit. For example bring an archer and a warrior to attack 1 archer, use the warrior to lower the archer and then get a guaranteed victory with the archer. Where if you...
Stacks serve a vital purpose... Survivablity.
If you have 3 groups of 5 each. 1 Arty could suicide on your group of 5 and then your enemy can attack that group of 5 with 5+ weaker units of his own to wipe out those 5. If you have 15 your enemy would have to use a lot of arty or a lot more...
I wanted to win a prince game on time, as odd as that sounds, I could have easily won on space but instead I built nukes(probably 30-40) and just nuked everyone into glass. The best part was stock piling them and then all at once declaring war on everyone (5 other civ's) and just letting them...
in my opinion any of the high level games, emperor/immortal/deity.. if you don't play via standard rules you are 'cheesing' the game. The whole point of Deity is to make it extreamely difficult nigh impossible for you to win. It's for the hardcore 1-3% of people who play the game. Playing it on...
Quit blaming Firaxis... These games take years to make and develop as well as hundreds of man hours from dozens of people.. Guess what? All those people got to be payed and most of them get payed well. Just how do you propose to pay these people with no serious income for years and years to get...
Without rushing on emporer you give the computer too much time and space to catch up to them purely via building, sure it can be done but it is that much harder. Let them build you cities and then take em :D.
Ideally 10-15 cities on standard map should be good enough to win the game via most...
