    Reviewer Corruption?

I think the considered opinion of Civ 5 is that it is poor, from a significant number of people. Others consider the game to be worthy, but there can be no doubt that many people find the game poor. I personally played the game for a few days, then stopped, and then played the Mongol scenario...

Annoying constant redrawing of the map

    I'm playing in DX11 and it's there.

Annoying constant redrawing of the map

This happens to me as well, and I'm above the recommended spec. I have an AMD 6 core 3.2GHz processor, 8GB of RAM and a Radeon 4870. More often after I load a game. It looks to me as if the game keeps a drawing of the map in memory, but if it doesn't have a drawing it'l redraw. Suggestion...

Think this game fried my vid card!

If it was passively cooled then it wasn't reference design - it's unusual it should fail after 4 years. It was never upper quarter, but it was very bang for buck when it came out. My knickers get in a twist when people throw out wild accusations that have potential to cause scares. I happen to...

Think this game fried my vid card!

It's a 4 year old video card, and on day one it was obsolete. It was brought out as a very budget video card, and it was not actively cooled. This means it was made as cheaply as possible, and the whole time it's run it's been hot. The components on the card will last signficiantly shorter...

    The Sea...

I'm in the medieval era. Focusing on sea unit production isn't an option... my empire is stretched in every direction already. I've found the only thing I can do, pretty much, is block behind my swordsman, and block in front of him so that no galleys can get near him. As soon as the barbs get...

    The Sea...

I'm struggling off the coast of China, there are a rather large amount of barbarians around. I have barely enough ships that I can keep them down, but I cannot disperse the camps without a land unit. If I send a land unit then they go into those horrible embark ships which are very fragile. Is...

Has the game finally been released for the rest of the world?

I can't understand why it takes so long. I'm watching it decypt on resource monitor, and it uses between 1 and 11MB/sec of Disk I/O, usually 1MB/sec. It's doing it on a RAID0 stripe on SSDs, so they won't bottleneck at that speed. I have 6 cores, and 8GB of RAM, and Steam is using less than 1%...

    Protestantism in RFC

This probably takes a bit of the wind out of the idea... But I think the idea of implementing the Reformation creates a few problems... so it might be done a little simpler. An event, which causes Civs to choose between Reformed Christianity, or not. The ones that choose yes to the Reformation...

    That funny doohickey

The doohickey is simply an indication of stability. It can be in three positions, it can have the wings up, which means good, the wings level meaning normal, and the wings down, meaning unstable. If a competing civilization has their wings down (i.e. unstable) then potentially they could...

    Pizza!

I've had pizza in various places in the world, and Italian pizza is definately unlike most other pizzas. If you look at Rhye's "don't" list, that's pretty much the problems, if you want to call them that, with other pizza. I've only eaten pizza from restaurants in Italy, never from someone's...

    TAM BTS v0.70 Released!

This is it altered, if it saves anyone the bother. Rename this file by removing the .txt from the end (it should then end .xml) Replace the existing TAM one with this one. If it's installed in the default directory, then this is where to look. C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's...

    TAM BTS v0.70 Released!

Either should work. Delete the TAM folder from (assuming you have it at the default location) C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\ Your game will crash when you research any Imperial age technology though. --- I've just played a nearly complete...

    TAM BTS v0.70 Released!

Fantastic :) Nice to see progress is being made on the boring stuff (bug hunting). I'm not sure if you're aware already, but one of the civs (I didn't note which one in my last game) in 0.70 had no city names. Not one of Rome's neighbours, I only noticed it late game. Edit : A small question...

    TAM BTS v0.70 Released!

Thanks a ton for making this! I remember playing it on Vanilla Civ 4, while there's some things that need polished on this version, it's certainly a big step forwards. Looking forward to the 1.0 release.

RFC: a few thoughts on certain civs and starting positions

Ok, before I start on what I wanted to ask... here's something to satisfy perhaps all camps. American cities are not the most cultured in the world at the moment. However they are producing massive amounts of culture. --- On topic now! Part 3 of the original post is a big one for me, in Civ4...

    Memory-fix by Harkonnen is out!

Harkonnen. I've a 256MB video card and 2GB of RAM. Currently not playing Civ4 since I'm waiting on an 3Ghz Opteron to arrive this morning so I can increase my speed just a little. Is it worth using your patch, or from what you've learned from working with Civ4, should it be able to play...

    Scotland!

Have to Agree, Firaxis could have put in Elizabeth and William I. And that'd leave Victoria.. Victoria was, in addition to being the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland (as well as her other territories), Empress of India. I hope Sean Connory is a joke :P
