Just a word of caution there are bad guys within the group, declearing your strength openly is not the best idea.

Evening Two​

It seemed like there were actually a lot of people in the party with interest or inclination to magical talents. Sharing their knowledge of ancient and contemporary customs seemed to give everyone ideas of what they could try, and a few who already knew some interesting spells might have been further encouraged to help the party.

But it was only early in the afternoon when the party encountered a significant obstacle. As someone began to cross a small, cold brook some enchantment was tripped and a voice rang out.

“Ngo ngo further. You canngot pass!” repeated over and over. More ominously, some creatures or monsters seemed to be gathering on the other side of the stream, so everyone drew back to regroup.

“All right, someone has to go forward and clear the way. What’s our decision?”

Today, after the deaths yesterday, there was a lot of furious debate. Firstly it was decided that Bret Pelennon must be the warrior to lead the group ahead. So it was Bret’s turn to speak.

“You’ve got this all wrong, you’re being tricked somehow, we’ll never be successful if we go on like this. But I’ve seen too many good fellows die in this war already, I’m committed to see it through in life or in death. Let no one say Bret Pelennon was disloyal.”

A couple of armed men also joined with Bret, one had declared his support loudly and openly, another must’ve been Bret’s friend or ally.

This clearly wasn’t enough, yet, to make a good fight of things, so the rest of the party was still bickering over a second champion. As it was time for the party to make their decision and defend themselves from attack, it was decided Ngelson would go forward.

“Come on, this is ridiculous! First choxorn and now me, what’s wrong with all of you?” Ngelson complained. There was only a single other person willing to stay in Ngelson’s company, so all together, they made 5 to cross the riverbed and fight the monsters on the other side.

“Don’t worry guys, we’ll stay here with bows, or, uh, magic, and help you fight. Right.”



Bret lofted his quite oversized sword high in the air as he made his way across the waters. With flames several feet tall, the creature charged to meet Bret as he waded out of the brook, right on the other side as Ngoogol’s voice had warned. Bret’s supporters were also effective warriors this time however, and they were almost holding the monster back, Bret’s swordsmanship not making a bad impression. The Elemental creature let out a terrible roar of anger though, and to the great misfortune of the humanoid warriors, more monsters it seemed would join the attack. A speedy dinosaur-like creature clawed at Bret from behind, with the other warriors with their hands all too full, and it was too much in the end. The Elemental managed to burst by and set itself on the original target that triggered it’s attack, and the others could only stand back as its fury was unleashed on Bret.



“Surely I am not the only hero here. All of you, I trusted with my life, avenge us by defeating that cursed sorcerer once and for all.”


At the same time as Bret and his supporters prepared for battle, Ngelson had scrambled about with his sack of items. He pulled out a potion and drank it with a somewhat futile attitude, left the rest of his gear behind, and gathered all the courage he had for the upcoming battle, still quite angry with some of the others in the party it seemed.

There wasn’t much the party could see except that the Earth Elemental was far too powerful for Ngelson, who was quite weak, and his friend. Blows rained down and Ngelson soon lay battered and bloodied.



“With my last breath, I curse Kobolds!”

The party urged the surviving members to retreat across the river. Of the five that had crossed, three returned, one limping painfully. Sita Kalyanam was injured!

The others had managed a defensive perimeter, the magic spells being rather more effective than anyone’s bow however, and it seems any more enemies out there would flee. Yet for hours, the Elemental creatures remained defending their side of the river, and it wasn’t till late into the evening that the summoning magic finally seemed to fade. It wouldn’t be these elemental creatures that would show any signs of fatigue though as they returned to the aether, and no one was left in high spirits for their battles against Ngoogol in upcoming days, when the fallen bodies of their comrades were recovered and given a quick burial.

So spring wasn't Bret after all, just a brat. Why didn't c_h claim the role?
Besides, he should have stayed in the river when fighting a fire elemental. Duh!
