Game Thread: The Life and Times of Atto Ngoogol

Evening Ten​

The group was unanimous in their plans. They strode forward into a high-ceilinged cavern whose far exit was sealed with large stones and reinforced with magic. But there was still another defender in the cave to take care of first.



Many supporters charged forward with Otto von Ventiari, aiming to do what they could. This posed a problem as they confronted their enemy had great speed and manueverability.

The Air Elemental could only be attacked by a few warriors at a time

However, those who did manage to reach it were quite powerful, skilled at fighting against its earlier brethen or strong in their own right. Along with Otto two others managed to keep up nonetheless, and eventually they would strike a final blow as the creature's spirit left and the swirling whirlwinds simply faded away.

The Air Elemental was defeated, and destroyed. No one was further injured or set upon other complications today, perhaps a good sign, as it seemed the last of these outside creatures had been banished for good.

Nomination Tally



As the group stood in the heavy darkness of the cavern and saw what was before them, many shouted, cursed, or had other rants to vent. A more eloquent voice made a declaration:

"Atto Ngoogol, dark wizard and traitor, we condemn you for your crimes against the world. You've truly got no way out now."

There was no response but silence. So the group began the slow task of guarding and breaking into this bunker of sorts. They saw a need to recover and prepare during the night, so some remained on lookout in case Ngoogol tried to break free, but in the end they figured he would let them all come to him to fight.

Night Action Notice - for all players

In place of another night action, any living player may choose to FLEE and abandon the group. The default choice is STAYing with the party so unless I receive a PM otherwise I will assume that.

Any player who chooses to flee is immune to night actions, and will automatically survive the game.

Any player who does not flee, will participate on the appropriate side in the final battle, adding their strength and anything else that your character does. (there are only two possibilities, anti-Ngoogol or with Ngoogol)

Final Puzzle​

Ngoogol has an intricate web of wards and magic spells protecting his hideout as well as his formiddable offensive magic, of course. Together it's up to the party to take the reins and dissipate his evil magics to aid in their attack.

Dead players may participate in discussion, on the game thread, regarding this puzzle, and help the living solve it. They are not to discuss other game-related matters, do not pester them for information.

Complete the puzzle entirely for +15 strength for the group against Ngoogol in the final battle. Partial completion (say, about 80%) right will grant +10 strength. And, for extra fun, you can leave all the white spaces blank and pretend the black squares are like playing a giant game of tetris. There are no strength-penalties for wrong answers by the way

Some additional notes and details, and the full set of clues for reference/quotability here:

Clues are the site are numbered from top left to bottom right, so 1 across is in the upper left, 40 across bottom right, same with down. for reference 20 across is the long clue right in the middle. Couldn't find a way to put the numbers on there with this site, really sorry about that and I know it's messy.

sorry, stupid mistake, shouldn't even have needed to link to quicktopic at all, did something weird when I pulled it off where I'd posted on one of em. Link should be fixed, as always anyone tell me if there are any troubles with the puzzle again.

a note on convenience - I don't believe it'll tell you any answers/check anything unless someone has the puzzle 100% right so don't get frustrated with that. People are free to take screenshots and post in spoilers here or just type out what they have for each clue - whatever works for you all is fine I'll take answers in any form, and know you'd all want a convenient way to show/discuss others what you're working on perhaps.

Meh. As much as I'd love to help y'all with this whole battle thing, the format of the crossword makes my head hurt.

Okay, so I know 1 across is in the upper left, 40 across bottom right, but I have absolutely no idea where all the other numbers are supposed to be. If you can put numbers on this screenshot, Earthling, it'd be very helpful. Unless of course you meant for it to have no numbers marked.

Ok I can try to do that, I completely understand. Maybe should have scanned in a paper copy but couldn't really do that till tomorrow now, it's not necessarily neat looking either though. I'll work on the screenshots, edit in above. Again this site/software is cheap and quick enough I guess but know it doesn't give all the organization of a traditional crossword (plus well I know I broke standard symmetry etc... rules). Anyway screenshots are up.


Also, the puzzle will continue through the day phase just as a heads up, should be a bit of time for everyone who wants in on it.

Problem is, 2 across isn't 2 down, same with a bunch of other numbers, which just makes it more confusing.

Yeah it didn't let me number anything by custom on there. Are the screenshots now still too confusing - I can get it cleaned up a bit more I guess if you all need it and renumber everything in that post.

All right will edit into the post again. Everyone else can thank those above or be angry at the evil Ngoogol team for me not having a cleaner looking picture to start.

The number references inside the clues in the spoilers do not match the numbers in the spoilered template. For example

55.enemy of 23 down (23 is in the middle of a word)
75.what to do because of 34 across, 3 across, 17 down, and 12 down (3 is in the middle)

Some compensation in terms of time might be nice.

No, no extra time (though you have till tomorrow/through the Day Phase anyway) it's all the work of Ngoogol's evil servants. I did miss renumbering those spoilered clues though, you're right. If there are more concerns keep asking guys.

Are you sure about all the numbers? I'd renumber them again if I were you because it's a downright mess.

Some answers quickly (not filled in by daveshack as I write this)
1 across- haze (pokemon move)
which makes 1 down hot, which when I google 315k is a AL alloy. Dunno but haze is definitely 1 across

63 across should be slurm
48 across dine in

13 down will be rickroll so etch isn't right (er, you wrote it in 32 across where it's 34 across)

For 60 there is no 45 down.

Archons + spider mines = Starcraft. How come you didn't spot that one, Kennigit?

Cuz it's a whole row across. I don't know what the answer to the crossword is, but it's because they are a floating unit type.
